Summary: Sheer Genius
Review: "Satisfy My Soul" is hauntingly memorable. The story wraps itself around your mind, refusing to relinquish its grip. The characters stay with you long after you've turned the last page. I never dreamed Channer could possibly get any better as a writer, but once again I'm amazed...amazed at his dexterity in his development of character, amazed at his ability to make this dream come alive so vividly. Colin Channer is definitely not a 'paint-by-numbers' kind of writer. There's no formula that he follows. So if you're looking for another 'Waiting in Vain', go read that book again. 'Satisfy My Soul' is just that...satisfying, challenging one's view of his spirituality among other things. A work of pure genius! Channer all I have to say to di I is this, "Respec', nuff nuff respec', boss!"

Summary: Excellent, captivating, "train" reading novel.
Review: Colin captured the sensuality of loving someone with his descriptions of the love between Carey and Frances that made you want to fall in love a million times. Yet, he shows what a persons flaws can eventually do to them and the people they love. Karma...at it's best. Thank you Colin, you are truly a gifted writer.

Summary: My Soul is Satisfied
Review: Colin Channer thrusts you into a whirlwind of experiences that test your spiritual mettle. If you didn't believe in reincarnation before, you're bound to get off this ride wondering if life after death is possible.

This story is about more than just religious inquest, it's about spiritual memory. It's about recalling a past, our past, in a way that opens us up to our true self. It's about intellectually and emotionally recapturing our history and our traditions, and reclaiming our ancestry and our gods. Who we are as blacks today is the dream, who we were yesterday is the reality. Channer asks that we stop drinking from the wine of what we have been taught and become sober to what we once were. Through Carey and Francis he has developed a work of literature filled with symbolism, subtle parables and magic, and love that spans millenniums.

This is a read that will leave you reeling long after you've placed the book on the nightstand. I was given many more things to ponder and they were thankfully transforming. Channer has effectively put into words what my spirit has been yearning to express for many years, possibly for hundreds of years.

Summary: Soul Satisfaction in Dub
Review: Colin Channer's latest novel 'Satisfy My Soul' offers a narrative that is much more compact and intense than his auspicious debut 'Waiting in Vain'. If 'Waiting in Vain' is the result of a talented writer reshaping the typical framework of Black romance fiction then 'Satisfy My Soul' displays the improved skills of that writer beginning to chip that framework away and replace it with a more substantial and more sophisticated structure.

Carey McCullough and Frances Carey, the lovers who are Satisfy's main characters, are deeply flawed, tragic individuals whose lives seem attractive on the surface. Channer peels away that surface to reveal a story that is dark and nasty. A story that unravels like a brooding, sensual roots reggae bass line massaging a dancehall in a small rural town on the island of Jamaica where Channer locates the novel. It also reveals a narrative that is just as lyrical as Bob Marley's tenor wailing poetic words.

Nasty is really the operative word here. The relationships, the sex and the philosophical discussion that inform 'Satisfy' all have a nasty edge. A number of thought provoking themes are plaited into the basic thread of the love story. These themes lament the fact that the descendants of Africans transplanted to the Americas by slavery have not come to terms with the tragedy of the Middle Passage, have not come to grips with their curious connection to a decidedly European concept of God and religion and have an ambiguous or disconnected relationship to the African spirituality of their ancestors. These issues literally consume the characters and the story.

If Channer really is Bob Marley with a pen then 'Satisfy My Soul' maybe his 'Natty Dread'.

Summary: "Crossing paths once again . . ."
Review: Colin Channer's Satisfy My Soul is the story of two
lovers, Carey McCollugh and Frances Carey, who just
can't seem to get it right. Told from the perspective
of Carey, this novel explores the intricate ways of
life, especially love and spirituality, for those of
African Caribbean descent. No tradition or food is
left out as the reader is given the tragic story of
Carey and Frances trying to find their path to love
via obstacles like religion, African heritage/roots,
and other minor personality clashes that come along
the way.

From their onset, Carey and Frances are anything but
simple characters. However, they are equals to each
other when it comes to the arena of "lovin' 'em and
leavin' 'em," when it comes to how they've treated
their previous partners. Like many couples, the
subject of religion serves as a touchy issue for them,
but by the end of the novel, none of that matters.
Kwabena, Carey's best friend, proves to be a major part
of the climatic ending, which ironically, is the
source of Carey's introspective outlook throughout the
novel.

As a woman of African descent living in America, there
were various aspects of the book that I could relate
to. After all, love is suppose to be a universal
subject, but some of the Caribbean slang was difficult
for me to translate for a true understanding of some
of the "inside jokes" that were depicted on the pages.
I would recommend this work of fiction to any reader
looking for an in-depth, poetic novel on
Afro-Caribbean love. If you're a die hard romance
fanatic, this book will more than appease you due to
numerous graphic love scenes.

Summary: C. Channer Is A Wonderfully Well Versed Descriptive Writer
Review: I had the pleasure of purchasing this book and I am very pleased I did. I once read a book by Toni Morrison who's words leaped off the pages and touched me in ways I've never experienced. Well after reading this book I must say having the gift to embellish with ornamental writing is an amazing way to invite a readers soul to a world of imaginative expression. Good job Colin Channer I look forward to seeing you at one of your book signings here in Southern California hopefully in the near future.

Summary: Pleasantly Surprised by Satisfy My Soul
Review: I have not read such a good book in a long time, and was immediately drawn into Carey's world. A world of self-loathing searching for redemption in love. Carey's complex personality and beliefs with self doubting clarity will keep you hooked on every word throughout Carey's journey of self discovery and ultimate truth.

Mr. Channer's style of writing is so unique and uplifting, and makes you face your own inner truths. His words lead you to discover their meaning through circular half descriptions; where the reader finds the answers in another labyrinth of words.

Poetic and erotic, a journey of the Spirit. In other words-Beautiful.
