Rating: Summary: Not her best, but good nonetheless Review: "The Arms of the Law" isn't one of Jenna Ryan's best efforts, but it's still a good story. A killer is roaming the halls of the Beldon-Drake psychiatric hospital in Boston. Only Dr. Nikita Sorensen and Detective Daniel Vachon can find the killer--if that person doesn't get to them first. As always, Ryan delivers plenty of creepiness on every page, making this a good October release. However, the romance is way too forced (the couple's in bed by the midway point, and their love story largely takes a back seat to the mystery from then on, with the minor conflict between them resolved in an off-hand way). I also didn't really understand why everyone at the hospital was immediately thought of as a suspect except Nikita and I have to admit that I wasn't really invested in the main characters (why does she keep calling him by his last name throughout the book???), making for some slow reading in parts. Still, my desire to see who the killer was kept me going. Ryan provides a wide array of suspects and a few glimpses into the killer's head to keep you off-balance. And the scariness quotient makes this one you won't want to read home alone (speaking of which, why did the art department saddle the latest book from Intrigue's scariest writer with a bright yellow color? Are they trying to create the false impression that it's lighter than it really is?) While it's not a great Jenna Ryan book, it's still a good one to read if you want a plenty of chills.
Rating: Summary: A gripping, shivery tour through the minds of the insane. Review: This awsome story will leave you with goose bumps. Talk about a nut house! This one's for real. Jenna's characters are some of the strangest, and some are the most endearing. Detective Vachon is without a doubt the sexiest. Her story is very complex, and fascinating in the extreme. I couldn't put it down, and I'll be looking forward to any other book from this author. Intrigue just doesn't get any better than this! And please DON'T send me to that hospital for saying so. -Lee Emory
