Summary: She Sacrificed too Much
Review: Julia Henderson is a nursing sister in Doornfield, South Africa and one day an elderly patient tells her that she'd sold her farm to a Doctor named Nathan Corbett from Johannesburg. Julia reels with shock. It can't be him, can it? But, of course, it is. There can't be more than one Nathan Corbett in the medical profession in South Africa.

Five years ago she and the handsome doctor were to be married. They were going to live in Europe, where Nathan was going to work with the best doctors in his field, but just before the wedding was to take place, Julia found out her grandmother had cancer and only had a year, maybe two, at best, to live. Her grandmother, who she dearly loved, had raised her since infancy when her parent were tragically killed. Julia couldn't abandon her and if she told Nathan, he'd give up his career. So she did the noble thing and gave up Nathan and has spent the last five years without letting any man get close to her.

Now Nathan is back in her life, but he didn't come alone. He's brought a beautiful girlfriend named Marcie along with him. Will Nathan dump Marcie and go back to Julia? Well, after the way he browbeats and thunders and shouts at poor Julia, who'd want him to. He is just a horrible man. However this book was apparently written during a time with it was fashionable to write stories about how a good woman, especially a virginal one, can change the heart of even the cruelest of men. Now we know that is just simply not true. Only three stars.
