Summary: Laura Baker's third book is another keeper!
Review: BROKEN IN TWO, like its predecessors, combines the commonplace with the mythical; weaving both into a gripping Native American tale. Frank Reardon is an FBI agent haunted by failure and the death of his wife. The last place he wants to be is back on a reservation. He's investigating a murder, and the victim's sister is being less than helpful, throwing up red-flags of suspicion for Frank. Ella Honanie tends her store and raises her niece. She doesn't have time to try to save the world like her brother did -- the only thing all his fighting got him was killed. The only thing her brother's passion got her was an FBI agent investigating her and her store.

Two people at odds, drawn together by a cold-blooded murder, stolen art, and an ancient prophecy. Ella's quiet strength -- a strength she didn't even realize she possessed -- touched me. Reardon's search for the truth about the past, the truth about himself, hit home. And the love that grows between them truly makes this a book destined for my keeper shelf.

Summary: Highly recommended
Review: Excellent book! Very reminiscent of Kathleen Eagle (Sunrise Song, The Night Remembered). This is the story of Ella Honanie, part Hopi/part Navajo Indian, attempting to find meaning in her life, and Frank Reardon, an FBI agent, who seems to be the key to a lot of problems in Ella's life and area. Both hero and heroine are very sincere and warm as they care and try not to care for their life situations and each other. A nice, slow-moving romance but one of great depth. I really liked it, I loved them and I highly recommend this book.

Summary: Highly recommended
Review: FBI Agent Frank had watched his wife die in his arms, thanks toAIRO, the Native American militia group that he had beeninvestigating. He had seen his partner shot by that same group, and the whole debacle had been blamed on him. He was a man plagued by guilt, loneliness and remorse. The last thing he wanted was to investigate stolen Indian art on a reservation. But that was exactly what the Bureau had sent him to do. And now he was immersed in superstition and Indian lore and surrounded by implacable reservation Indians who felt nothing but hostility toward him. And vice versa. Ella Honanie was half Hopi and half Navajo and trying desperately to stay out of the tribal confrontation between the two nations. She wanted nothing to do with the federal agent, the superstitions he was up against or his investigation. A story steeped in Native American lore and mystical ceremonies. Very interesting reading.

Summary: Nicely written mystery
Review: Haunted by the death of his wife, FBI agent, Frank Reardon, doesn't want anything to do with his present case, nor the beautiful woman he doesn't completely trust. Now, though, Frank finds himself on an Indian reservation, investigating stolen Indian art and the murder of Eddie Honanie. It appears the two crimes are somehow connected, but Frank is frustrated by the lack of assistance he gets from Eddie's sister, Ella.

Part Hopi and part Navajo, Ella Honanie has tried to keep herself out of tribal confrontations - and Frank Reardon's investigation. She isn't a fighter like her brother was. And his fighting was, in her mind, what got him killed. But, at every turn, Frank Reardon is there. With little time to call her own, Ella is busy running her store and raising her young niece. Much too busy to help Frank - or fall in love with him. But together, Frank and Ella must find answers and will come to realize that a future together is only possible once their old wounds have healed.

"Broken in Two" is a wonderful read for those who enjoy Native American lore and mysteries. The romance itself is slow to develop, but this was a well written story.

Summary: A beautiful mystical romance
Review: In Northern Arizona, an unknown assailant kills Eddie Honanie. The case appears linked to the sales of fraudulent artifacts. FBI Special Agent Frank Reardon feels Eddie's sister Ella is a major seller. Frank wants nothing to do with the case when he learns that Eddie had ties to the American Indian Rights Organization. He blames AIRO for his wife's death during a violent confrontation.

Upon meeting Ella, Frank revises his opinion of the individual he now thinks is innocent. Though she too wants nothing to do with the rising danger, the conflict between AIRO and the Feds traps Ella in the middle. All Frank can see is Deja vu with the latest woman he cherishes dying as his first spouse did.

With novels like LEGEND and STARGAZER, Laura Baker has quickly earned the reputation as one of the top authors of mystical Native American romantic suspense. Her latest tale, BROKEN IN TWO, is a strong tale that blends several sub-plots into a stirring romantic suspense. The lead characters seem as broken as the ancient Hopi tablet that signifies the early stages of the legend actually occurring with love being the glue to heal them. This wonderful writer bakes a five-star reading experience so that the audience will relish its flavor for years to come.

Summary: Laura Baker's third book is another keeper!
Review: Rarely have I encountered two more miserable characters as the hero and heroine as in this book. If you are into angst ridden readings then this is the book for you. I really enjoyed Baker's two prior books very much but this one I just gave up on less than a third through. Go get Stargazer or Legend and forget this one.

Summary: Wonderful story of the search for truth and honor.
Review: The story of Frank Reardon and Ella Honanie is more than a simple murder mystery. It's a story of two people as they search for truths that defy "modern" explanations. The story relies on a belief in the power of the spiritual world to take over the physical one. Frank's search for an answer to stolen merchandise becomes his own search for his heart. A heart lost years before in a senseless tragedy. Ella's own life has been lived in response to a childhood trauma she has never understood. Together they will come to realize that the things in their lives that have been "broken" can be fixed through trust and love. I thought this was a terrific book. I have read Ms. Baker's other two works and enjoyed each one for the strength of the writing as well as the strong spiritual themes in each. I hope she continue to write for a very long time. The only sad thing is that she doesn't write more quickly!!
