Summary: Amusing, lighthearted amateur sleuth tale
Review:

Tired of New York, soap opera writer Deborah Peltz decides to use her mother's seventy-fifth birthday party as an excuse to find a job in Stuart, Florida. The only problem with her mother's hometown is that Deborah's mortal enemy, her sister Sharon lives there. Deborah informs her mother that she needs to divorce her own sibling. The trice-married Sharon loathes Deborah just as much.

When their mother becomes hospitalized, both Peltz siblings go after the same person, their mother's physician, Dr. Jeffrey Hirschon. This heats up their four decade rivalry until they realize he invited both of them to come to his home. However, at his home, they find someone murdered. Jeffrey and the cops think the sisters did it. To clear their names, the two rivals need to make a truce and conduct their own investigation. However, their own past, starting with high school cheerleading, remains in the way of them smoothly working together as a cohesive team. Even with the law trying to prove that they are the prime suspects in a murder case, they continue to fight.

SIS BOOM BAH is a typical Jane Heller novel. The who-done-it is light, but amusing because in a Heller novel the female characters steal the show. In this case, the Peltz sisters and their peacemaking mother provide many humorous moments and interludes. Anyone who enjoys a lighthearted, simplistic amateur sleuth tale will relish this book.

Summary: How I came to write a book about bickering sisters...
Review: After people read SIS BOOM BAH, which is a comic tale of two sisters who've never gotten along, they inevitably ask me how I came up with the idea for the book - in particular, whether it's based on my own twisted relationship with my sister. The answer is, my sister is seven years older than I am and very even-tempered, so we never had the kind of sibling rivalry that bedevils the two sisters in the book. So no, it's not autobiographical! But here's how the idea came to me. I had just finished my previous novel, CRYSTAL CLEAR, when a friend told me that she hadn't spoken to her sister in five years. I asked her why and she couldn't remember the specific incident that had provoked their estrangement. Soon after, I heard another story from a woman who had stopped speaking to her sister. Then another, and another. Suddenly, it seemed there was an epidemic of sisters not getting along. I thought, why not write a novel poking fun at two sisters who bicker and maybe it will nudge them to mend their fences! I go into more detail about the inspiration for this book as well as for my previous books on my web site (janeheller.com), but what I have discovered about SIS BOOM BAH is that sisters who get along splendidly love the novel because they can point to its characters and say, "Thank God. That's not what my sister and I are like!" And sisters who don't see eye to eye love SIS BOOM BAH because they can point to the characters and say, "That's us! How did the author know!" No matter what your relationship with your sis, I hope you'll give the book a look! Happy reading, Jane Heller

Summary: Movie rights to SIS BOOM BAH optioned!
Review: Dear Readers,

Here's an update on SIS BOOM BAH, which has just come out in paperback. Joe Roth, formerly of Disney, now the head of his own as-yet-unnamed studio, has optioned the movie rights to my novel for Julia Roberts' production company!

Summary: Lite Lit Laughter
Review: Deborah Peltz and her sister Sharon have always shared an intense rivalry. They continue to bicker and fight like 4 year olds, although both are in their 40s. They try to get along, but for some reason, they always fail, even when their mother, who is recuperating from a heart attack begs them to get along. Deborah has recently moved to Florida, where her mom and sister live, trading her job writing for a soap opera for a job taking care of an historic Florida beach home (nice job). Both sisters quickly become "involved" with their mom's cardiologist. The involvement doesn't last long because star cardiologist turns up murdered. The bickering continues, even to the police station. Deborah, our narrator, is determined to solve the case using the "skills" she acquired writing for the soaps. Sis Boom Bah is a funny tale, told in a breezy humorous style. If you are looking for an enjoyable, romantic comedy/mystery, stop here. It's fun and funny.

Summary: A FUNNY THRILLER...
Review: I adore this book 'cause it's incredibly funny and suspenseful at the same time! The characters are descriptive and Heller gives them all that "Souther flair." If there's one thing I should say about this book, it's that it is smart. The plots, the characters, the setting, everything is just so realistic and perfectly described. And the problems that these two sisters have will definitely make you laugh!! This is a great read during any season!!
