An aunt Farren had been the only one to be go to see about when Farren was in the U K. Now she is dead Georgia, and Henry want to money she had promised to them, but neither has enough time or desire to go to see about the money. So they send Ferren.
She walks into a trap, one set by Stallard Beauchamp, he is now the heir of Ms. Newbold. He catches Farren trying to find the old tin Ms. Newbold keep her will in.
Stallard lets Farren know what he thinks of her not spending any time with Ms. Newbold but finding ample time to come to reap the spoils of the will.
Farren tells him she has been abroad, and just found out about Aunt Hetty. But she lets him know she spent lots of time with Aunt Hetty when she was in the U K, and the she only did it because she gets on with old people.
Stallard then gives her a task, to work for Ms Nona Irvin, a very mean miserly woman, if Farren will work for this woman, Stallard will make sure Mr. Preston and Georgia get their money.
Farren refuses, but in going back home, Georgia talks to Farren, and gets her to see how much the Prestons have done for her, and that this is a small price to pay.
Farren agrees and starts to work, only there was a housekeeper and a maid, as well as a cook, and farren was only to be a compainion to the old lady, but as fate would have it the housekeeper left, the cook left, and so did the maid, all because Ms Irvin fired them.
Now Stallard finds out Farren is cook, maid, housekeeper, and compainion he sees her in a different light, and after spending an hour driving Ms Irvin Stallard, finds Farren remarkable.
He soon falls in love with her, but his jealousy keeps her at bay.
Stallard finally gives and admits his love for Farren and she lets him know she loves him too.
But he was so mean to her it is hard to see why she loves him.
Although she wont back down from him she does enough lip bitting when it comes to her step-sister that you want to shake her.
