Summary: READ THE BLACK ICE, IT'S GRRREEAATT
Review: The Black Ice by Michael Connelly is a very exciting, thrilling, and suspenseful book. One of the finest police procedural novels. It deals with gangsta' life in the streets with guns and drugs. Cal Moore, narcotics officer, orders were to go investigate the city's latest drug killing, but he turns out to be the victim and the great detective Harry Bosch begins to make some dangerous connections, starting with a dead cop and then leads to a bloody string of murders that begins in Hollywood and ends in the dirty south. This book has non-stop action with an exploding endind.

Summary: Suspenseful, character driven.
Review: A suspenseful, character driven mystery novel that grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go until the satisfying and surprising conclusion. Bosch, a true maverick hero, is one of my favorite characters in the genre (and I love his taste in music).

Connelly skillfully overlaps law enforcement with the criminal world. Some of the so-called good guys seem just as rotten as the bad guys, and Connelly doesn't make excuses for anyone. The only complaint I have with the book is that everyone seems to be against Bosch, and it gets a little frustrating. But it is a very minor complaint and isn't enough to take away from the five-star rating. I can't wait to read the rest.

Summary: Harry Bosch...one of a kind.....made it right
Review: After reading the black echo, I found the black ice a more consistent story, far more interesting and credible. This time Harry is driven down to the US- Mexican border in his quest to solve a drug related crime of an anti-narcotics unit cop who apparently crossed to the bad side of the line. Harry, stubborn, bright and cunning makes his own decisions, shows a little quota of contempt and rebels himself against his bosses making him an example of self determination and a character of his own.

In my opinion, this work would have been a little bit better if in some chapters action were slowed down in exchange for more suspense, adding bogus elements, scary episodes and false clues to confuse and frighten the reader moving him down to the edge of his chair, Nevertheless, the book is compelling, original, very graphic, entertaining and though keeping on a main line of investigation all the way along, ends with a master twist (the best) that almost knocked me off my own chair showing the top quality of Mr. Connelly as a crime writer

Summary: It keeps you on the edge of your seat

Summary: Good, but lacking at times.
Review: I've a big fan of Connelly's Hary Bosch. However, I didn't enjoy this book as much as I have his others. It was good, but at times, the plot seemed forced and lacked Connelly's usual style of non-stop action and suspense.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Excellent proceduralnovel - Bosch is the man.
Review: Black Ice is a good book about police work as it should be, honest forthright and uncomprimising. But unlike The Poet or Black Echo, Connelly seems to take a cheap way out, especially in his handling of Cal Moore. A short cut I am inclined to say. Still, I will be waiting for the next Bosch novel.

Summary: Confirms Connelly as my favorite author!
Review: I was introduced to Michael Connelly in "Blood Work". I got hooked and have now read all of his works, this being the last I have acquired. For any mystery fan, Connelly's books are outstanding. Now I'll have to wait until next year to read a new one! I envy the reader who is being introduced to Connelly; you have a great new world to enter and a new author to explore.

Summary: Uninteresting
Review: The problem I had with this book was that I just couldn't make myself care about the case Harry was working on. Found myself skimming and skipping pages to get to the end. After reading and enjoying all of Connelly's Harry Bosch stories, I was surprised that this one was so uninteresting. I'm glad this was the last in the series that I read. If it had been the first, I doubt I would have wanted to read his other books. And that would have been a big loss.

Summary: I'm a NEW CONNELLY FAN!
Review: Connelly is one of the best conspiracy-thriller writers around. I just finished this book and like 'The Poet' and 'Blood Work,' his writing is superb, his characters deep and highly evolved, and the plot is masterful. I also just read 'Alien Rapture,' the powerful conspiracy thriller by Brad Steiger. Read the reviews, all of the above are top reads in this genre.
