Jacob: Former stick fighter Jacob, embarrassed by his infirmity, dwells inside a shoddy row house across the street. created an unforgettable fictional cast with issues of great complexity. While characterizations were profound, I found moments where the story lacked Trinidad's customs and traditions. As a result of this, I did not fully connect with the Caribbean premise, which could have added more depth to this otherwise electrifying debut. The characters get under your skins quickly and you can't put this book down. And I understand there's a part two available! I can't wait!

Summary: Quite a Find
Review: This book was not my typical reading material, but I am grateful that I followed my instinct when I bought it. The story is absolutely engaging and the painting of the characters is exceptional. In such a short work Ms. Carrington manages to create great depth in her characters and draws the reader into this small area of Trinidad. What a great surprise and discovery - I hope you will all find it just as rewarding!

Review: This has to been one of the best books i've ever read. It's the story of Myra who has to take care of her old father, and her teenage daugther who's hiding a big secret from her mom, please don't miss out on reading "a thirst for rain". can't wait for the sequel coming out in august

Summary: An Intriging & Beautiful Story
Review: This is such an incredible story with the most uniqe characters in which you feel so much pain for them all, not much is resolved in there lives but to hear there voices makes you want to climb in the pages and change the destiny of there paths. Roslyn Carrington writes about there joy & pain in such a beautiful language you will simply not be able to put this book down. I recommend this book for all bookclubs, the discussion will go on long pass your meetings and the paperback edition provides a great reading guide that opens the novel far more than you expect.

Review: This was a very well written book. I hope to read more from Roslyn Carrington in the future. I would recommend this book to all my sistas out there trying to raise a family by themselves. Much love and praise to Ms. Carrington.

Summary: Beautifully written slice of life in Trinidad.
Review: Trinidad and the people in this novel came to life with Carrington's superb, evocative writing. The real-life characters stuck with me even after I finished the book, making me desire a sequel to spend more time with them. It is a story of a mother and daughter, the men they knew and loved, and the secret they shared, but neither knew. I recommend this book to anyone desiring a compelling story with feeling and a richly textured setting. A great read!
