Rating: Summary: A Good Read Review: A Thirst For Rain by Rosalyn CarringtonRosalyn Carrington's deeply-textured language flares with a light that throws her characters into sharp relief, etching their lives with words and helping us see them the passions, fears. There is Myra a a proud, sensous hardworking woman who finds blessed release in her own restless desires. Odile, Myra's defiant teenage daughter who risk her one chance to escape the family poverty. Sebastian Myra's senile father who has begun to follow his fantasies into a world of trouble. Slim Myra's street vendor boyfriend who spends as much time seducing young woman as do selling cheap trinkets. Jacob, The once famous west indian stickfighter who thought the hero in him was long dead until he meets Myra. Rory the boy next door whose desperate needs for Odile's love may destroy things before the rain comes. Through the delicate interweaving of there stories A Thirst For Rain is a warm and enjoyable read. I am looking foward to reading more from this author
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: As an avid writer, who has not yet been able to complete anything, I really admire Carrington's courage and dedication to finish and publish this wonderful piece of art. As a writer, I tend to read with such a critical eye. I was pleased to pick up one of the first books from a new writer that I was able to read and enjoy because of the beautiful and flowing language and its realism. There was nothing contrived here. I was fortunate to meet the author at a book signing in Chicago. I was only able to tell her there that her book was "good." What an inadequate description. If she continues to write like this she will have a wonderful future with the written word and readers will be well rewarded. Kibian Adams Greene, Chicago, IL
Rating: Summary: A book from my heart Review: For me, A Thirst For Rain represents what I love most about Trinidad, where I grew up and still live: the grandeur of nature, the sweet simplicity of life, and the strong sense of community. But A Thirst For Rain is also about mothers and daughters, fathers and daughters, and fathers and sons. It is about the need we all have to see our parents as heroes, and the pain we feel when they fall short of this ideal. It laments the great risk facing fatherless children in a world just waiting to engulf them and poison them with its cruelty. But of course, A Thirst For Rain is also about love. In it, a lost, tired and wounded prize-fighter, Jacob, regains his manhood and becomes a hero again when he steps forward to defend the honour of Myra, a woman he had loved from afar but never believed he was worthy of holding. A Thirst For Rain is a story from my heart. I am honoured to be able to share it with you.

Rating: Summary: Engrossing book! Review: I just finished reading an advanced copy of this book and I am hungry for more! This was a very well written, engrossing story. The writer's ability to create three-dimensional characters is truly a gift. The more of this story I read, the more I wanted to read about the life and culture of Trinidad. The parallel between the intense heat and the rising conflicts between the four major characters was an interesting and delightful twist. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is tired of mundane fiction.
Rating: Summary: A Thirst for Rain & Every Bitter Thing Sweet Review: I just finished this book and found it to be a wonderful read. It is a perfect book to take along on vacation (which I did). It is fast moving and gets you engaged from the first page. I am looking forward to reading more from Roslyn Carrington...perhaps a sequel? I would love to learn more about these characters, and the ending feels a little like a cliff hanger. Particularly with Rory and Odile.

Rating: Summary: Everything a novel should be and more. Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and I eagerly await another from this brilliant writer. This story, filled with rich imagery of life in Trinidad, three dimensional characters that explore life, love and the complexities of relationships is more than enough to capture any reader. Definitely a book you can't put down or forget.
Rating: Summary: A Thirst for Rain & Every Bitter Thing Sweet Review: In both her novels, Ms. Carrington has proven that she has the ability to keep her audience captive through her outstanding story telling ability. She is able to run the full scale of the emotional gamut that takes the reader in a very short time, from tears to laughter. Ms. Carringtons' novels have left me with a thirst for reading more of her future works, for which I'll be eagerly awaiting.
