Rating: Summary: Bravo! Review: Adventure, romance, passion and intrigue. A great read.
Rating: Summary: an old freind of the author 14 years removed Review: As a personal freind several years in our past. I started my "read" of the book anticipating "Judd" my old freind. I was, within the first few paragraphs, swept away and caughtup in the story. The mixture of character development and raw nature well described, even for the uninitiated, makes it easy for me to recommend it to anyone who likes a story with great power, intensity, irony, and a well thoughtout plot. And, oh yea, there's a great twist too.
Rating: Summary: Lawyer Author Reaches Summit Review: Both sides of a complex personality come to light as a bored and frustrated middle aged lawyer looks for love in the great outdoors. Difficult choices are faced by Jim Hempstead as he struggles through depression and the usual afflictions of a mid-life crisis to find true love and contentment. The intrigue and adventure take place amidst the alpine heights leading the reader to wonder whether the lawyer author is more than an armchair mountaineer. The essential components of a "Grisham-esque" legal thriller are mixed with the steady action of the mountaineering genre creating an intoxicating high octane cocktail. The reader is left wondering whether Jim Hempstead ultimately found what he was looking for- let's hope so.
Rating: Summary: True altitude.. wow Review: Hoping this isnt a true account of his life. Most attoneys have egos that have to go to the ends of the earth to feel satisfied. I felt sorry for the woman in the beginning of the story that probably allowed for him to go off climbing mountains. I wonder if this mountain woman , would have seemed so low maintenance if she was the one helping him develop this ego over the years. I guess time will tell whether or not it was true love or just something new and challenging. Only time will tell! I give it five stars for altitude or attitude!!
Rating: Summary: Adventure Story? Review: I expected The Other Side of Rain to be a story about climbing and the outdoors. It is that, with excellent descriptions of climbs of the Grant Teton, Ranier and Denali, but it's more than that. As several plots unfold and eventually join together, the story explores a variety of interesting themes. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Rating: Summary: Had to be there! Review: I ordered this book on a whim after reading the review. The author had to have been to the places he takes the reader to. Either he is a climber or has some friends that are and can relate some pretty harrowing tales. The other review talks of Hempsted. I would have to think that the author is,in fact, the character of Keith Warren. One would have to be there to know the inner struggles. I happen to know a climber/author/lawyer named Jim Wickwire. When I told him about this book he stated that he actually had read it and enjoyed it. Small World !!
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down.... Review: I received the book April 25th (9:30am)-was done reading it by 9:30pm. From the begining to end I found myself caught in a whirlwind of emotions and couldn't put it down. The story gets better with each turn of the page and the reader is swept into the story as if they are right there climbing, crying, loving and hating. The author has an incredible gift/talent to mix such detailed and complex ideas into a story that grabs ahold of you from the start and lets you go in the end. Great Job.
Rating: Summary: True altitude.. wow Review: Mr. Scheaf has performed an outstanding job with his exploration of the oftentimes fragile and tenacic idiosyncrasies of raw human nature. Set in the focused intensity of a climber's environment, the souls of the characters are interestingly expelled through a variety of circumstances, providing personal reflection, perhaps, for us as readers.
