Rating: Summary: Attila Review Review: In a matter of words Peter Hargitai's Attila, is quite exceptional. I am not an avid reader and it takes alot for me to really get into a piece of writing. On the contrary this book puts the reader right in the story from the very start. You feel as if you were living attila's life throughout each obstacle occurring in the novel. Hargitai's book is one that was hard to put down, you really wanted to finish it in one sitting. From the sruggle of a small boy to an unconditional love a man for another, this books keeps you on your toes. After completing this book, you will not be able to discern which elements were fact and which were fiction. I recommend Peter Hargitai's Attila to any reader.
Rating: Summary: a barbarian's story. Review: Hargitai gets to The United States after the Hungarian revolution experiencing a transition process in which he has to assimilate a whole new environment that helps him grow and discover his own self. With a heroic ending the Hungarian author inspires the reader with the story of his life because Attila loves but hates and fears as well, and those strong feelings are what makes him act instinctively like a "barbarian". It is a genuine novel, with stories that feel all real and real people.Hungary, the first part of the book, is a different color than the second part. It is a far and mystified place surrounded by magic characters that might be just the freeze image of a kid's perception being idealize, because characters like Piroshka, his blue coisin and first love are a magic vision. Piroshka is blue not only because she has a heart problem but because she is special and distant like everything that is blue, she is an untouchable being who cannot even get excited about anything. The second part was funny and exciting and occurs in the united states Is a book with force I recommend it to everyone who likes novels, I particularly got into the story, loved each of the characters, feeling their deaths, and loving everything that Attila loved.
Rating: Summary: Attila (A Barbarian's Love Story) Review: This novel is a biographical fiction in which I feel is timeless because any generation would be able to relate to its captivating story. The difficulties Attila experiences with his family, spouse, and dealing with death are all a part of life. His critical and racist family members were not easy to grow up with, but through it all, Attila rose above it to meet the silver lining through the dark clouds of his life, Millie. This novel of heart ache and conflict will leave readers feeling that they can surpass any obstacle and come out the other end.
Rating: Summary: Attila the Love-Sick Hun Review: This is a story that works so in so many ways. At first when one picks it up and begins to read it, Atilla: A Barbarian's Love Story begins to sound like a war time novel. Then all of a sudden it becomes a coming of age story, and then it changes into a romance story. Peter Hargatai will eventually strike a cord with you somewhere along in this story about a young child named Attila who starts off having to leave his native country of Hungary because of political problems. He arrives in the United States and must grow up as an young American boy. He learns many of life's lessons one of them being that of what to do with the opposite sex. It's a very well written story that will keep you entertained from beginning to end.
Rating: Summary: Powerful Review: Attila: A Barbarian's Love Story is in my opinion Peter Hargitai's greatest work. Hargitai shares this true love story through the main character named Attila. Attila is a young boy who goes through a tremendous amount of hardships living with his aunt in a communist Hungarian society. Despite all the dangers affiliated with the rising Hungarian Revolution, Attila meets and falls in love with a girl named Millie who gives Attila strength. They both struggle against Attila's parents and Millie's parents to keep their love free while ironically, Attila's family is struggling to free themselves from the uprising Hungarian Revolution. This novel is a must read for everyone that in my opinion has the potential of someday becoming an Oscar award worthy film. The characters and plot of the story are so strong and intense that the novel is truly worth calling a love story masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: Attila A Barbarian's Love Story Review: Don't be fooled by this title, the book is not some cheezy love story. Attila A Barbarian's Love Story is about a young boy's struggle through life. Hargitai does an amazing job of bringing his readers through his journey of reliving his life, and his experiences. He does a good job of describing his characters and making the reader feel as though they are him. Get ready for major excitement, and moments of sadness. This novel has a perfect mix of everything.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: "Attilla:A Barbarian's Love Story", is an excellent novel. This is one of the best books I have read in a very long time. I am not very big on reading novels, but I just couldn't put this book down. Attila's life was difficult, being away from his mother and moving from Hungary to America. I fell in love with Attilla and Millie. These two characters were so young and full of life: they stopped at nothing to be together. There wedding in the forest was very romantic not to mention risky. The discription in this book was very well done. I actually felt like I was at Attilla's sixth birthday party, and felt nervous for him when he asked Millie to the school play and football game. I really felt like I was part of the many exciting scenes.I really enjoyed reading this novel, and will definitely recommend it to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Review: Lately, after watching a lot of stories on TV about failure marriages and fake love, I have kept thinking about the hollow in our hearts. This society is no longer about love, family and happiness. I see with profound sadness that life nowadays is all about who has the better cell phone, or who got laid more over the weekend, even how many times have you been married and how much money did you get from the divorces. Life is no longer the pursuit of happiness but about the materialism that drives our lives dark and with no true meaning because we are losing the values that really matter and exchanging them for the ones that can easily be thrown to the garbage. When I read Attila: A Barbarian's Love story I regained the hope that I had lost along the way, not only because the love that are in those pages can really get to one's heart, but also because I know the author, I know him flesh and blood, he is human like me and like everybody else on the planet with the same capacity of love as any of us, the incredible thing here is that he fell in love and he has been in love with the same girl ever since. This book made me realize that there are still beautiful things in this world, maybe we, the regular people living in materialism, are not ready to see the beauty that surrounds or maybe we just do not want to because then we will be distracted by that feeling that can make you crazy and lose control called love. I have learned a lot from Attila, like to be strong, not to be afraid of my own words, be open to the beauty in this world, but above everything I am so thankful because now I believe in love, in the greatest gift. Thank you Attila for writing your story that has become one of my personal favorites because I found what I was looking for, I found hope and justice, a balance that nothing can be too dark or too white, because it is in the middle of these two stages where happiness lays.
Rating: Summary: Attila Review: If you don't enjoy love stories don't be fooled by the title, it is more than a sad love story. It's the struggle of one man's life. Peter Hargitai does an incredible job at introducing the characters to the story as well as connecting the reader with the characters, making the reader love the character one minute and hate them the next. When reading "Attila A Barbarian's Love Story" the book becomes alive, making your own life come into perspective, not many authors can accomplish that. The book is exceptional. "Attila A Barbarian's Love Story" is an undying struggle to succeed at what others want you to fail. The story crawls under your skin and makes you question if what you want is really what you want and not what someone else wants.
Rating: Summary: Love and a Barbarian Review: As a reader, I thoroughly enjoyed "Attila." I found that not only could I connect with how Attila felt, but I also understood the author so much more as a person. I found that maybe I did not notice it at the time, but this book contains some irony in it from time to time. I honestly though, did not notice it until having read certain parts several times. I definitely though, do feel as if the book was a good reading experience for me.
