Summary: compellingly surprising
Review: This book was a surprise, just when you think you know the plot it changes. The character of Dana reminded me of many women I've known. Dana's wanting to be so different from the distorted image of her mother, drew her to a man that wanted a woman like that.I appreciated the way Ms.Scott allows her characters to go beyond the story line, this is where most writers fail.

Summary: A Deep Story!
Review: This is the first book I have read by Monique Gilmore-Scott. The Ties that Bind Way Down Deep is a very heartfelt story. It is the kind of story that makes you want to speed read to the next page. Although this is a work of fiction, the characters seemed so real. I could really feel their joy and pain.

The ties that bind a family are truly deep. I believe Dana and Kaj met each other to be healed. This story had a few issues that all of us can relate to.

If you allow hate and anger to linger in your heart it can consume your very being.

I was very pleased with the book from page 1 through 249. My most favorite scene was when Kaj had the conversation with the seemingly homeless man. Now that was deep!

Summary: Well Developed!
Review: This was a wonderful story with well developed characters. The author kept me biting the baited hook wondering what Kaj's secret was. It's amazing how our fears become our cross to bear. The issue with his sister was definitely a welcomed twist! Kaj was the epitome of a man and the story could definitely warrant a sequel. Maybe they could meet somewhere and reunite?

Summary: Thrilling read
Review: Thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I like reading novels which deal with characters who are dealing with 'life', good and not so good. Life situations is what this book presented. Not everyone was happy or content and there were some real issues presented by this novel. I could almost feel the pain Kaj experienced when he recounted the story of what severed his relationship with Rodney. Likewise, I could understand how Dana's childhood experiences caused her to be the person she was in the novel ( i.e., no makeup, baggy clothes etc). The author should be commended for fully exploring and developing these issues and the impact it had on the characters. Although some may feel that this is a love story in the traditional sense, I felt that this was a story about the ultimate love, which is self love and ultimately self acceptance. One of my favorite parts was the dialog between Kaj and the homeless man which I felt was the heart of the novel. Although much easier said than done, we have to let go ( or resolve) the past in order to live in the present and the future. Finally, I also loved the the dialog between Kaj and his mother just before Xmas dinner. Good read!

Summary: Definately a New Kind of Novel

Summary: Finally, a book that deals with the effects of our childhood
Review: Ties that bind is unique in that it deals with the strong and at times traumatic effect that our childhood can sometimes have on us as adults. The story, like most, starts out slow. I use the analogy of an "old school car". It takes a while to warm up but once it gets going you don't want to get out! I was drawn into Dana and Kaj's lives by their realness. They could be our friends, brother, sister, father, mother or mabye they're us. Ties that Bind will make people look deep into the effect that their childhood rearing has on their development as an adult. As we quickly learn from Dana and Kaj's lives, our family ties can make or break us.

Summary: Thank you for your support
Review: Ties that Bind Way Down Deep is my debut novel into the mainstream fiction arena. After five successful romance novels with the Arabesque romance line: NO ORDINARY LOVE-(11/94) HEARTS AFIRE - (7/95) THE GRASS AIN'T GREENER (10/96) SOUL DEEP (5/97) MAMA DEAR (Anthology-5/97) I feel it is time to "tell a new kind of story." We all have had things that "bind" us up: childhood experiences, unresolved issues, displaced anger, embarassing secrets--things that can and will impede our good judgment when it comes to "looking" for that special someone.

And so it is with this new novel. Kaj (pronounced Kye) and Dana must face their ties that bind them way down deep. Especially if they want to continue on life's journey complete. *REMEMBER: I am a STORYTELLER first--a writer second--and this book, I must humbly say, is A GREAT STORY! Blessings, Monique Gilmore-Scott

Summary: This book has everything:romance, suspense, drama, humor
Review: Ties that Bind Way Down Deep is something refreshing: a novel that is deep, insightful and best of all, makes us feel. Readers will care about the complex characters and be happy that there is a new writer on the block: one who knows how to tell a story without resorting to fluff and cliches--HARRIET KLAUSNER

Summary: Working Mom Finds Time
Review: Unfortunately, I don't find much time to read. Most of my time is spent raising my children, taking care of home and working an extremely busy job. However, I am so glad that I made time for this one - it was well worth it. You know what they say, you make time for the things you enjoy. I will definitely make time for Monique's next book, and the next one and the next one.........
