Summary: A travelogue of 1929
Review: Daphne du Maurier (The Birds, Rebecca) wrote a time travel novel, "The House on the Strand" in which drugs transport the heroes back to medieval Cornwall. Night Jazz too, is an exciting romance based around the theme of time travel. It is into the late 1920's that Jeri Devlin is transported as a time traveler in search of her brother. Amidst economic crisis, corruption and politics, she finds her amour, the hardened but principled, Lex Rose.

The novel can also be read as an allegory of the excesses of our dotcom/fin-de-siecle. Historical fidelity to the world of 1929 and the ensuing Depression are among the most interesting parts. The drama depicts several characters slowly evolving an awareness of the depth of the economic chaos.

A fun read with great characters and historical ambiance, I highly recommend Night Jazz.

Summary: A wonderful trip in time
Review: From the moment I started reading this book I couldn't stop. Night Jazz is fun, captivating and a roller coaster of a ride. I wanted to jump into the pages and become Jeri Devlin. Jeri's vulnerability in this world of Gangsters, Casinos and Illegal booze allowed her to succumb to love like she never had before. I can't wait for the sequel.

Summary: Enchanting
Review: I loved this book and couldn't stop reading until I finished it. I can still imagine being transported to the year 1929, the imagery painted by the author is so well-defined. Jill Shure took me to this other time where thoughts, feelings, emotions, events all had different meaning than the world of today. An era so precious and at the same time so frightening, yet so lost to our time. It was mesmerizing and exciting and left me wanting to stay and continue the experience. A cleverly crafted and deftly written story of romance, danger and excitement.

Summary: A Grand Passion
Review: Jeri Devlin, the 25 year old heroine of Jill Shure's new time-travel novel, NIGHT JAZZ, might be anyone's modern, over-achieving daughter working her way up the ladder in an LA Advertising Agency. Except her parents are dead and her brother Paul is missing. A stock analyst, Paul disappeared on a business trip to New York five months earlier. So when we meet Jeri, she's on the verge of a breakdown, having lost her last surviving relative and consequently her verve for work, causing her boss to fire her. An MBA with a vast knowledge of history, finance, and general knowledge, Jeri's a dim bulb in the area of romance in 1997, as the book opens. But on her trip to New York in yet another attempt to find her brother, she will fall through time and arrive during those final glory days of the Roaring Twenties to discover her brother made this trip, too. In pursuing him, Jeri will trade in her lackluster modern duds for the satin and fur of 1929 designer fashions. She will witness the vain hopes of a society that believes the Stock Market will rally, knowing it won't. But her biggest revelation will be her discovery that love and desire can be more consuming than reason, career or reputation when she falls for Lex Rose, a notorious womanizer who knows his way around a speakeasy as well as the crooked hallways of New York Mayor Jimmy Walker's corrupt administration. Lex will give Jeri a taste of love that is sweet and intoxicating but never easy. Through the champagne days of those final moments of the 1920's, through the hardships of those first months of the Great Depression, Jill Shure's NIGHT JAZZ is a riveting ride to a grand passion.

Summary: Night Jazz - A page turner
Review: Jill Shure chose an ambitious setting for her delightful love story between Jeri Devlin who finds her passion in the past, and the dashing Lex Rose. The details and facts about the 1929 people and events she sprinkles throughout this engaging romantic novel where well researched and add an interesting element to the story. The ending left me hoping that there will be a sequel.

Summary: Like a box of a chocolates!
Review: Jill Shure's first novel Night Jazz is a highly readable light-hearted romp through the final days of the delightfully decadent Jazz Age. Reminiscent of Herman Wouk's Marjorie Morningstar, Night Jazz doesn't fit neatly into any specific genre. Not simply science fiction or murder mystery, it is also far more complex than most romance novels. Night Jazz is fast-paced fun. So, tuck into a box of chocolates, curl up on the couch, and give in to the pleasure of an old-fashioned love story. It's delicious.
