Rating: Summary: Powerful, Passionate Story - HOT Romance + Suspense Review: Oh, I just love this book! It's the first work of Marilyn Pappano that I read and it made me a permanent fan.
The plot line is one of my favorites: the tough guy cop, in this case Detective Jack Murphy, who believes that he has been betrayed the woman he loves - and can't forget. Jack believes that his lover, Evie DesJardiens' betrayal was responsible for his partner's death, and cannot forgive her. In trying to find out just how she was involved so that he can find the killer, he makes her life miserable by following her every move and reminding her of how guilty he believes she is. Though Evie tries to explain her innocence, Jack will have none of it. Yet -- as the back of the cover states. "...neither could (he) deny the fevered passion that still simmered between them," and does it simmer!
The setting is the French Quarter in New Orleans in July. Can you think of anything better for this type of story? It is this kind of setting that Marilyn Pappano best brings to life (read her SOUTHERN KNIGHTS Series - also a favorite) with vivid sights, sounds, fragrances, and ancient mystery. As Jack and Evie work out their intense relationship and try to find a vicious killer, they encounter exotic concepts such as mind reading, fortune telling, forseeing the future (by Evie), and even a little Vodoo employed by the villan. It's a complex, touching, loving book with vivid images and passion. Do not miss this one!!!
