Rating: Summary: A heart-rending disappointment Review: I could barely muddle through this disjointed retelling of the Sherwood saga. The book came highly reccomended (by someone I will never trust again), and as such, it was worth weeping when I discovered how truly awful it was. To be brief, the sexual content isn't just graphic--
it's downright disgusting. Feyrer's Robin Hood was completely lacklustre, and paled like a flashlight with a low-running battery compared to the full moon brightness of Maid Marian. If you like the Robin Hood legend, keep your impressions as they are. Thief's Mistress may ruin the glory of Sherwood for you.
Rating: Summary: A sensual look at legendary characters. A great read! Review: I'm not normally a romance reader but a good friend recommended this to me. It has opened my eyes to a new genre. The writing was superb and the characters were entertaining and provocative. The twists and turns of the story kept me turning the pages as much as the well-honed writing style.
Rating: Summary: Finally, a Maid Marian with some spunk - great book! Review: The Thief's Mistress turns the Robin Hood legend around, letting us imagine things from Marian's point of view. Finally, a Marian to admire and respect! Feyrer's Robin is a good match for her, fiery, strong, wild, and yet gentle. But the real surprise is Sir Guy. Yum!!! It's hard to pull off a story where the legendary villain is as appealing as he is deadly, but that's done beautifully here. He's a fitting rival for Robin, in an interesting story of political intrigue. Strongly recommended for those not afraid of eroticism in their romance
Rating: Summary: The first book I've ever thrown in the trash. Review: This book came highly recommended to me too, but it was a great disappointment. I'm not afraid of eroticism in books, but on the other hand, I didn't find any in this! Plus, Marian and Robin meet a few times, exchange perhaps a handful of sentences and then are in love. Robin, in fact was in love from the first time he saw Marian. Marian, who mainly came across as selfish, stuck up and dumb. Sir Guy had potential, he could have been gorgeous. The funny thing is, even I have to agree that this book is well-written. The text flows easily, and I did finish it, even though I hated it. But the plot, the characters, the settings, and last but not least the dialogue! Spare me!
Rating: Summary: A spectacular Marian Review: This is a wonderful story, intense and vibrant. The writing is purely spectacular. What really gripped me was the way familar Nottingham characters felt so true as they were presented in this new light. Marian is the focus of the love triangle and the strongest character in the story. That was fascinating. It's a rare thing to encounter such fidelity to the period. From Richard Lionheart and Elinor of Aquitaine to the Nottingham Castle crowd, this book knows its history.
Rating: Summary: A very different retelling of the Robin/Marion story Review: Well told and intelligent with an unusual twist. A Marion very much in control of her destiny. The many characters were vivid and real, the story a times was gritty and shocking but this is the 13C is it not. Wonderful author.
