All the characters, Brody and Summer, Brody's daughter, Kelly, and his Aunt Dottie and the many other secondary characters were wonderful. And the ending---WOW!! This is a must read!
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Interesting characters, only adequate plot. Review: I commend the author for the courage to write about drug treatment for adolescents. Not the kind of thing most publishers love but I learned a little bit. That being said, this is a good romance. The protaganists, Summer and Brody, are complex enough for the romantic tensions to be genuine. The book falters when the author trys to overlay a sinister component which seemed rather contrived and unnecessary.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Emotionally Powerful! Review: I could hardly put this book down, from the opening prologue right to the end. There's a lot to like about this book--a heroine who's had a rough life, but isn't a victim. A hero I just fell in love with--and a great cast of supporting characters. This book tackles a difficult subject matter with wisdom and honesty. I'll be looking forward to her next book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Passionate, intelligent - a wonderful book. Review: I have enjoyed Paula Detmer Riggs' books for several years. TAMING THE NIGHT showcases all her writing talents - a story that keeps the reader engrossed and characters who are sympathetic and believable. I read the book at one sitting, and later re-read it and enjoyed it even more.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: outstanding example of intelligent and compassionate romance Review: I loved this book! It starts out with a 17 year old drug user in jail and about to go into court for trial. That is the prologue and then you are immediately whisked by the next chapter into her life at age 33 when she is a psychologist-drug counselor intent on starting her own drug treatment center. The hero is the nephew of her benefactor for her center. He is the county sheriff, a real law&order type who doesn't believe in drug rehab. Although he is what you'd expect a police person to be, he also has many endearing characteristics that bond the reader with him. He is not a stick figure cop! The lead characters begin falling in love despite the polarity of their views on drugs. There are also wonderful secondary characters: his aunt, his high-school-age daughter, her boyfriend and the boyfriend's grandfather, a teenage patient at the new center and various townfolk. The Pacific Northwest is the setting and the author knows her territory since she presently lives there herself. Anyone who thinks romances are for stupid, simpering women, will have her/his mind changed by this one! This could make a great movie and I would definitely want it shot on location!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A tremendous romance from a gifted writer! Review: Ms Riggs has outdone herself once again. In this story of redemption and love, she has shown us the resiliency of the human heart. Summer Laurence, falsely arrested as a drug pusher, is betrayed by the father of her unborn baby, an undercover cop seeking fame and glory. Abandoned by the man she loves, by her family and ultimately by society, she vows that she will change her life once she is released. She does just that by becoming a drug counselor for teenage users. After his wife and unborn child are killed by a drug addict released from a rehabilitation center, Brody Hollister takes his young daughter back to his childhood home. Years later, Summer arrives with plans to open Phoenix House, a rehabilitation center for teens, and the tension, both dramatic and romantic, rises. This is just the sort of thing at which Ms. Riggs excels. With an uncommon compassion and sensitivity, Ms Riggs succeeds in showing us that even the most wounded heart is capable of hope and love. A very satisfying read with an empathetic heroine and an endearing hero.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: I couldn't put it down. Review: Once again, Paula Detmer-Riggs produces a hero that brings a sigh to my heart, and at times, a tear to my eye. Touching, alive characters that tug at every emotion and pull me right into their world. As always, Ms. Riggs tackles the toughest of life's obstacles, always with her special twist, and pulls off a fantastically real story. Wonderfully, wonderfully done.
