Summary: Not big on romance--
Review: I don't consider this much of a romance, but it was an interesting book nonetheless. I don't usually care for romance between older people, well, in a book that is! But I'm glad I got the chance to read this one.

The book starts out with Beth and Doug, both in their 50s and recently married. Both were widowed before their marriage. They have the perfect relationship. Beth runs a profitable Bread and Breakfast while Doug's paintings are starting to bring in some money. This book seems to pick up after the traditional Happily Ever After of a romance.

Along come stress and a test of their relationship. Kayla, Doug's estranged daughter, shows up with a 3-year-old son in tow. Kayla suffers from alcoholism and has hit bottom. The book mostly goes through the trials a parent faces when a daughter is failing. It also shows how difficult it is for Grandparents to take on the responsibility of raising grandchildren (just when you own are grown, you have to start all over again, without the energy you had in your youth). It also deals with alcoholic behavior.

Since I don't know much about alcoholism, I found this part interesting. And how Beth juggled a toddler, her B and B and her marriage was well written.

Because I was expecting a "romance" I was somewhat disappointed. But to be fair, it was a good book. Looking up VM's previous 2 books, this one is related. The first 2 deal with the romances of Beth's 2 grown daughters, who show up also in this book.
