Summary: A delightful contemporary
Review: Desert City detective Ethan “Baby Cop” Knight lives up to his last name as a knight in shining armor trying to find safe homes for abused children. Some people will say Ethan is obsessed over safely placing children while other swill say he is substituting for his desperate need of a family of his own. Whatever, to succeed at his chosen avocation, Ethan works closely with the Child Help Center, whose current administration winks when the Baby Cop breaks the rules to insure a strong placement. However, Ethan’s relationship with the Child Help Center changes abruptly when Regan Grant becomes director of the Desert City branch. Regan buries herself in her work to forget a recent nasty boyfriend experience. However, unlike her predecessor and Ethan, Regan believes rules are set for a reason and adherence is critical to performing a good job. She plans to stop that rogue cop from deviating from standard operating procedures. However, when Ethan and Regan meet, sparks fly and soon love unites them, but she has demons that make a permanent relationship impossible. Roz Denny Fox shows her vast skills with her latest super tale, THE BABY COP, which digs deep into the impact of abused children on society. The story line works because Regan and Ethan are caring, nurturing souls who see placements from different perspectives. Ethan is a bit too perfect even if he is quite a hunk, while Regan is loaded with demons that make her seem human. Readers will demand more Desert City novels from Ms Denny, preferably one starring Ethan’s hunk of a partner....

Review: It was inevitable that "Baby Cop" Ethan Knight, a detective in Desert City, Arizona, and Regan Grant, a social worker and supervisor for Child Help services, would clash. He believes in meeting the needs of children in crisis first, then following through with paperwork and red tape. If that means circumventing the system, then so be it. She believes the rules which govern the placement and care of children have been implemented with their best interests in mind, and following the rules benefits all of the children all of the time. But this by-the-book supervisor has both a heart and also very human weaknesses. Regan loves children, though a tragic accident when she was child ensures she will never have any of her own. She still bears the physical scars and the very tender emotional wounds of that accident, making her both vulnerable and brave. And Ethan has a way of touching her heart, of making her want to heal, and of helping her see beyond the red tape, despite the risks to her hard earned career. A strongly principled, highly ethical character, Regan can't help but touch the reader's heart. Ethan's the hero of any woman's romantic dream. A maverick that the town loves and the director of Child Help services has declared war upon, Ethan comes to see appreciate the strengths of a woman who follows the rules. As her presence touches his heart, making him hope for a home and family of his own, Ethan can't help falling for this wounded yet beautiful woman. The more determined she is to push him away, the more Ethan recognizes the vulnerabilities and fears that have resulted from her painful past. Once again award winning author Roz Denny Fox produces a tale to touch the heart in THE BABY COP. Even the cover of this delightful romance deserves mention with the four adorable cops surrounding the hero, one of whom has borrowed his police hat! With a flair for the unexpected, and delightfully realized characters who come alive, THE BABY COP not only provides diverting and engrossing reading, but an underlying serious tone regarding children in social programs gives a second pause for thought. The tension between the hero and heroine as each attempts to adhere to their own very high ethical standards, even while meeting the needs of children, provides a taunt plot that moves along quickly, making THE BABY COP very highly recommended.

Summary: A well executed Plot
Review: One of the joys of reading category romances is that the plot is executed in a small time frame. However, it can be a problem as well, because the romance has to be upfront and well defined from page one. Ms Fox is a master at making this happen with an apparent ease sure to add to the reader's journey of love's discovery. In THE BABY COP, she has created what appears, at first, to be a very strong case of opposites attracting, but becomes so much more which is sure to delight readers. She uses a wonderful plot device with a police dog, mirroring her heroines' fear which created, for me, one of the most endearing moments in the book. Ethan is sure to be a favorite with readers as he is a delicious blend of the strong but silent sensitive beta male but when it comes to protecting those he loves (family and children) he emerges as the avenging Alpha male. Regan on the other hand is billed as a by-the-book ball breaker bureaucrat, but the reader will soon see she really is reeling from a bad relationship gone sour. At times she is not too endearing but our hero takes care of that and the readers will cheer. Sometimes category romances are viewed as a poor relation to their cousins the single title romance, however if THE BABY COP is any indication of the quality of the genre, with its wonderful rich conflict, characters you want to know in real life and heartwarming love, the reader can be assured of journey sure to touch their heart.
