Rating: Summary: I've always enjoyed Ms. Mittman's books... Review: ...and A Kiss To Dream On, is no different. All of the characters felt real to the reader. We all have faults, and where many romance novels gloss over that fact and present perfect leads, Ms. Mittman revels in writing about believable characters. Gideon, the strong silent type, works his way into the reader's heart with his kindness. A truly "nice guy" whom you sometimes wanted to kick into action, Gideon continues to renew faith in the reader's belief of love. Arlissa was a little harder to like, but does redeem herself as the story unfolds. A bit spoiled, she doesn't know a good thing even if it kicks her in the face, until it is almost too late. The secondary characters are integral to the plot and help bring the story to its full potential.I have but one small criticism of the story, and that is how some of the passages connect. There are times while reading the story, where I felt as if I missed a conversation or a paragraph. Gideon and Arlissa both jump to a lot of conclusions about each other and sometimes the reader is unaware what prompts this. A Kiss To Dream On, is a great love story, (and although it might seem to be a bit slow at times)I highly reccommed reading it.

Rating: Summary: Fabulous! Review: I am always thrilled when I come upon an author that I have not yet read and discover that she is WONDERFUL. Mittman makes her characters full, real and deep. She has a knack for avoiding the trap of making every situation and every character too perfect. She creates characters that you cheer for even knowing their flaws. Can't wait to pick up another one of her books.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've read this year - definite Keeper! Review: I finally treated myself to reading A Kiss to Dream On... and I've been telling the discussion group I'm in what a wonderful, excellent book it is!!! I LOVED it! And now, when I tuck my son in, I've been giving him one extra kiss (which he doesn't seem to mind, even if he is now 9 years old!) and telling him that this is "a kiss to dream on". What a beautiful story, and so well written! If you haven't read Ms Mittman, go out right now and get this book. A lovely love story
Rating: Summary: Best romance I've ever read! Review: I just finished reading A KISS TO DREAM ON and want to thank Stephanie Mittman for such a delightful book. I laughed; I cried; I wanted to see the movie. But I especially wanted to thank her for the best romance I've ever read--and by all accounts that's over 10,000 at this point--42 years of serious addiction to American love stories, and A KISS tops them all! I couldn't wait to get to the bookstore and search out others by this engaging author.
Rating: Summary: Great Americana Review: In Granite, Montana Deputy Sheriff Gideon Forbes pleads with his long time best friend, Slevin "Slick" Waynick, to stay and marry Arliss Mallard, who awaits him at the altar. However, sticking true to form, Slick skips town, telling Gideon he will return when he has made his fortune. As has been the trademark of their association, Gideon heads to the church to clean up Slick's latest mess. Gideon has always loved Lissa, but she only had eyes for Slick. When he tells the stunned woman that Slick left town, a panic-stricken Lissa admits that she is pregnant and that Slick knew. Gideon asks Lissa to marry him and the desperate young lady accepts. However, Gideon has an agenda with a defined objective. He will do whatever it takes to gain Lissa's love. He truly believes that even though he may not have been her first lover, he plans to be her last and her best. However, every night as he lies near his beloved wife waiting for her to share his need, his gut takes over from his heart and he panics that when Slick returns, Lissa will go to him. Americana romance fans rightfully hold Stephanie Mittman in high esteem because of her tremendous novels. Ms. Mittman's newest winner, A Kiss To Dream On, will embellish that merited prominence. The novel is a captivating historical romance that contains all the master magician's touch. The two memorable protagonists, whose relationship propels the story line forward at a fast pace, are a fabulous duo. Gideon prays but fears the future while Lissa begins to understand what love is all about. This novel is another great western Americana romance created by a writer whose works are always devoured by romance fans. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've read this year - definite Keeper! Review: My copy of this book is peppered with marginal notes, highlights, and underlines. They offer support to my belief that Stephanie Mittman is a master writer of the 20th century. Her genius, I think, lies in her stingy use of words. With them, she paints vivid pictures, evokes strong feelings and exposes the humaness within us all. That, fellow readers, makes for more than "historical romance," it's literature at its best.

Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: Since one of my favorite authors, LaVyrle Spencer, isn't writing any more, it's nice to discover there's a replacement. Her name is Stephanie Mittman and the book is A KISS TO DREAM ON. It takes place in the late 1800s in Granite, Montana where pregrnant Arliss Mallard is abandoned at the altar by Slevin "Slick" Waynick and is rescued by Deputy Gideon Forbes, a friend who has been in love with her forever. Gideon marries Arliss and takes her into his home where he lives with his father, brother and sister, all interesting personalities. This is not just a romance, it is a love story. Arliss falls in love with her husband slowly, as she discovers what a wonderful man he is, and as she begins to see the difference between false charm and real love. The absolute best line in the book occurs before the Miners' Ball toward the end of the book. Hoping to impress his wife, whom he knows loved another man before him, Gideon wears a vest similar to the one Slick used to wear. (He's ordered it through a catalogue.) When Arliss sees him wearing it, he becomes suddenly self-conscious and says, "I don't know what I was thinking." To which she replies, "He don't hold a candle to you, Deputy Forbes .... "Not in any way." This story has everything -- humor, pathos, friendship, love. If you'd like to spend a little time in small-town America just before the turn of the century, try A KISS TO DREAM ON.
Rating: Summary: For those who like LaVyrle Spencer! Review: The shock that LaVyrle Spencer isn't writing any longer should be softened by the fact that we now have Stephanie Mittman's books to read. A KISS TO DREAM ON is a classic marriage of convenience story with that little something extra that had become Mittman's trademark. This book justly deserves all the accolades. Gideon is a hero to cherish. Read and enjoy!
