Summary: At once hot and thoughtful
Review: I bought this book awhile back after reading some of her internet postings. Her take on sex, love, and the people who engage in both are breathtaking, fresh, and honest. And there are a couple stories that, even after owning this book for two years, still make me, well, you know... THis is a must-read for people who like their erotica to be more than just sexual descriptions.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great erotica for thinkers
Review: I bought this book primarily for Tracy Lee's photography, after seeing it on her website. I ended up liking Mary Ann's work a lot, and referring back to it occasionally. As an erotica connoisseur, I recommend it.

Summary: Thoroughly enjoyable; careful, it will make you feel.
Review: I had read most of these stories online, but there's just something about holding a book ... Mary Anne has the gift, almost a magical touch, of being able to reach her readers at a place within themselves they may not have realized existed.

I believe it was Vonda McIntyre who said, "The writer's task is to convey in words that which cannot be put into words." That quote is, I'm sure, inaccurate, but it's close.

Mary Anne does precisely that, better than anyone I've read in a long, long time.

This work is far more than the sum of its parts, and I can't wait for a novel. You won't think your money was wasted when you buy "Torn Shapes of Desire."

Just a word about Tracy's photography - her images are not stark, but uncomplicated. She understands her medium and makes black and white portray as much as all the colors in the spectrum.

Summary: I've got to admit...
Review: I haven't read this book, but have read and re-read the stories on her website. Just wanted to let everyone know that one of her latest ventures is to edit the webzine Cleansheets. Wonderful site & well worth checking out.

Summary: A new way of Looking at Erotic Stories
Review: I personally met Mary Anne at a workshop at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, and after talking to her, she gave me a copy which i read on my flight back. It is very interesting and makes you view sex at a differnt angle, not from a view of perversion but more as an insight on how divine and sweet sex is.

Great book. Should read it.

Summary: I bought three copies, one for me, and two to give as gifts
Review: This is a great collection of poetry and short stories. I don't normally consider myself to be a poetry buff, but Mary Anne Mohanraj's poems really have something to say. (and her erotica is pretty good too)

Summary: Internet Porn
Review: This is a nice little book of stories, poems and the like from Maryanne Mohanraj's postings on the Internet, mostly at alt.sex.stories. Although most of the stuff you find on the net is garbage, there is some high quality material to be found as well, and this is among the better, although certainly of not the highest quality. The stories are at once arousing and edifying and they combine sexuality and sensuality to provide one with a (usually) nice mix in stark contrast to many other writers, who are good at writing blatantly about sex but not so good at writing about the feelings that go along with it. Some of the stories are tacky or silly, but at least Mohanraj deals with certain real issues in her writing and usually doesn't focus in on the rather tedious mechanics of the sexuial act itself. Some of the depictions come off as sounding trite and traditional, but she does try to make the stories a little bit more than something to masturbate to, as a few do actually make you think. Not a bad collection overall, but for some really hot stuff, you might want to check out Anne Rice's erotica.

Summary: Great collection of stories with wonderful photography
Review: This is one of those books that you would be proud to leave on the coffee table when guests come to visit. In fact, I sometimes make sure it is on the coffee table before they come.

The photography, which are pictures of the photographer herself, makes this book have the quality of an art book. It is very tastefully done, yet erotic. They complement the stories and poems very nicely.

The stories range from light fare to very eroticly charged. It is fun just picking one at random and reading it, yet you can easily sit down and read the stories cover to cover. (I think it is more fun to read "one a day" :-)

As an unexpected bonus, the forward by the editor and publish, Dale Larson, is a very serious look at how the Internet has brought together and distributed art and thoughts. I look forward to other books that Mr. Larson is involved with if he keeps to the ideals and thoughts expressed in his forward to this book.

As a conversation piece, coffee table art, or just fun reading, Torn Shapes is a valued part of my collection.
