Summary: Story that needed to be told, but not by Van Whitfield!
Review: As an avid reader who tries to read stuff from all different kinds of people from all over the world, this book sounded intriguing to me.

After reading the first few pages, my excitement turned to disgust. A disgust that anything this terrible would make it passed the slush pile.

The book has a severe ego to it, shouting off African-American celebrities right and left. My question is, if people like Allen Iverson and Chris Rock are already celebs, why do you have to tell me who they are! I KNOW WHO THESE PEOPLE ARE! (Chris Rock, big time comedian. Allen Iverson, Philadelphia 76ers star.) It added nothing to the book except page after page that could of been ripped out and no one would of been able to notice.

I actually took this book out of the library, and didn't buy it. It is not worth reading in any form. Library, New, Hardback, Paperback etc. Anyway you present it, it's story about self esteem that needed to be told, but not by Van Whitfield.

Summary: Zero Stars - if that were a choice!
Review: This is the only book I've ever begun and decided after one chapter that it wasn't worth the time to finish it. It's filled with wooden descriptions that would be an embarassment to a small town paper's social page. Why would we want to read an entire page (page 7 to be exact) that does nothing but list a bunch of names of black performers? Should we be impressed that he implies he knows these people? Van should definitely keep his day job until he learns to put his heart and soul into a piece of work,or don't write it at all. In a 7th grade english class this piece would be graded an 'F'. Random House should be ashamed of themselves for wasting the paper to print this when there are so many good writers out there struggling to get a break.

Summary: Outstanding!
Review: If you have ever struggled with your weight. Wondered and made conclusions in your mind about your relationships in comparison to your weigh, this is the book for you. Sonny Walker, the main character, is dumped by his slim and attractive girlfriend; after he gains weigh from eating all of her wonderful meals and desserts. One day she looks at him, and saw his size and not his personality. Causing her to end their relationship, without allowing him to finish off her wonderful peanut butter cheese cake. He joins a weigh watchers club, and meets Kayla, who has a talking parrot, who continuously calls him fat boy! Sonny finds the bird offensive and annoying. But, he finds in Kayla a friend that evolves into something so much sweeter. He is embarassed to tell his friends about Kayla, because of her size. But, eventually he sees her heart. Together they become quite a couple. He begins working out, she continues to eat excessively, but they find in each other, the greatest gift, of love and acceptance and understanding.

Summary: The laugh I needed.
Review: The title itself was catchy. I had just begun a workout program, when I purchased it. I found the book to be hilarious at times and serious at other times. It demonstrated a man's perspective to being overweight. Recalling the part when he and Marsha first split, and his thoughts were on that cheesecake...had me rolling! It recalled something I've done myself, the segment when he cut a slice big enough for two people; knowing that the other party wasn't going to want any of the cake. Whitfield has his own style of writing. I like his style and I appreciate not reading something that sounds like the masses. Keep you own style Whitfield and I will continue to buy and read your novels. "Something's Wrong with Your Scale" has motivated me to keep working out. After reading it, I got a message: You have to learn to accept who you are or even what you've become whether you're overweight or bulimic. If a change needs to be made you need to be the deciding mechanism.

Summary: Funny but.....
Review: I enjoyed the book, there was too much emphasis on the food though. I did not like the way that Kayla seemed to have no willpower AT ALL. She thought nothing of eating a meal for two all by herself. The character of Sonny was ok, he redeemed himself by losing some of the weight. The story was kind of boring at some points and at others I must admit I did find myself laughing. It will be interesting to see what kind of storyline Van comes up with the next time. What happened to the sequel to Beeperless Remote? Peace!

Summary: BETTER THAN "BEEPERLESS REMOTE"!
Review: THIS BOOK IS BETTER THAN BEEPERLESS REMOTE. IT WAS FUNNY AND IT KEPT MY ATTENTION A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN MR WHITFIELD'S OTHER NOVEL. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO SOMEONE WHO NEEDS A LAUGH.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Amusing
Review: I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't the best thing I've ever read, however, it did hold my attention and it got quite a few chuckles out of me. I haven't read "Beeperless.." yet, so I can't compare "Something's Wrong..." with that particular piece, but my first impression of Mr. Whitfield's work is definitely positive

Summary: Funny, funny, funnnnnnny!
Review: This book was funny from beginning to end. I read it in one day. If your looking for a laugh this is the one to read. You won't want to put it down and you'll wish it never ends.

Summary: A NEW MEANING TO FUNNY
Review: This book was awsome! I actually read it 1 day. I couldn't put it down. I was upset when I finished it. I laughed until I cried. I can't wait to read more of his material. I loved Kayla she loved herself and in turn she found true love. Oh and you have to love the bird K.J. Van does an awsome job with this book and I can't wait to read more of his material. A movie should be made from this book. Too funny!
