Rating: Summary: LOVED IT !! Review: I've just finished reading Elizabeth Adler's THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS and I have to say I just loved it!Now that Elizabeth has taken me to Paris,I'll have to go there for real. The problems that Lara faces in her life are universal and are resolved with sensitivity and without cliches. Many of us have taken that same journey.I recommend this book both for the reality she brings to its locations, and for the delicacy and sensuality she brings to the older-woman younger-man love affair.
Rating: Summary: Five Stars For This Fun French Adventure Review: I've traveled to France many times and I followed Elizabeth Adler's characters on their journey, using the Michelin Guide as a check for the places I wasn't familiar with. In my view - and in my experience - she's right on the mark and her evocation of the countryside and the South of France, as well as Paris, with all the good things and some of the bad - are masterly. As a seasoned traveler and a would-be romantic - I recommend this book highly.
Rating: Summary: Fun romance Review: Lara Lewis has her second honeymoon all planned - airline tickets, reservations at hotels and restaurants, car rentals - all at the same places where she and her husband, Bill, visited on their first honeymoon. There is only one problem - her husband cancels out on her and takes a business trip with his young associate doctor. After talking with "the Girlfriends", Lara decides to go anyway. But then she impulsively invites Dan, the younger man who is repairing her deck, to go with her. He does and what an adventure it is! From overbooked flights, hotel reservations not held, bad weather and "someone" not being able to read a map correctly and all the other mishaps that can happen on a vacation to wonderful finds when they just "go with the flow", its a great read for us. The author visited all the places in France that are in the book and it shows. It's a wonderful, imaginative escape with some surprises on the way. Pick it up and let some wonderful writing take you to France and a great adventure.
Rating: Summary: Second chances Review: Lara Lewis is concerned about her marriage to a self-absorbed Doctor, and decides that a second honeymoon to Paris is just what the Dr. ordered. Unfortunately the Dr. disagrees and backs out of the trip in order to accompany a younger woman on a business trip. Lara is heartbroken and thinks she will have to go to Paris alone, but meanwhile she meets a young handyman at her beach house, and decides to take him along. During the trip, she compares her new experiences with Dan to the ones she has imagined she had with her husband. She learns some surprising truths about herself and her marriage and emerges from the trip with new confidence. The author obviously has a knowledge of and love for France and she describes the countryside in a way which makes the reader want to go and see the sights in person.

Rating: Summary: Exceedingly well writtn...and funny too Review: Lara Lewis just turned forty-five, but is miserable, and has been ever since her husband of twenty-five years began to ignore her desires. He refuses to allow her to accompany him on his business trip to China, which adds to Lana's belief that he is cheating on her with his assistant. Still she looks forward to her upcoming second honeymoon trip with Bill when he returns to the states. Bill calls from China informing Lana their trip is off. Outraged, Lara decides to go to France without Bill. To her own amazement, she invites the carpenter working on her deck to join her. Even more amazing, the thirtyish Tom Holland accepts because he finds Lara very attractive. Overseas, the couple bickers, shares madcap adventures, and enjoys each other company until love intercedes and decisions must be made. THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS is a fun to read lighthearted romantic romp that will leave the audience in stitches of laughter as they observe the loving duo dives head first from one crazy incident to another. Elizabeth AdlerÃs tale has a serious undertone as the heroine must face reality and see her husband for what he is and not how she wants him to be. Romance lovers will thoroughly enjoy this first class ride into true love. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Boring and trite. Review: Like so many other books -- middle aged wife dumped by husband for a younger woman. She comes out on top and with a younger man to boot. Redundant as well, wife fights with new lover, they make up. And again. And again. At least they ate well...
Rating: Summary: Good Beach Book Review: No, it won't inspire great debates nor deep philosophical introspection, but THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS will provide the reader with a fast, light story good for a day or two of beach reading. Character-driven, it's premise seems to be that if it can go wrong, it will. When Lara Lewis finds that her doctor-husband of 25 yrs has decided to blow off the plans they'd made to re-create their French honeymoon to take up with his assistant, Lara decides to go ahead with the trip anyway as a way of finding herself. But she's not going alone. She asks along the young carpenter who's been working to repair her porch. Dan Holland sees in Lara everything her husband has overlooked and finds himself falling for the older woman with the air of sadness about her. The two embark on what Lara thinks of as re-tracing her honeymoon, while Dan, unaware of Lara's motives, thinks this is the first time she's been in France. Every Murphy's Law comes into play and the two learn more about each other than perhaps was good for them to discover after knowing each other such a short time. Some may find the premise a bit unbelievable and others will view Lara as wimpy. I didn't think she was wimpy as much as she'd been 'walked over' by her domineering husband. In the end, she not only finds herself, self-confidence, and real love, but she finds the courage to be her own woman. My biggest complaint was the use of too many French phrases, both in dialogue and in description of countryside and foods/drinks. I'll admit that toward the end, I was skipping over them. This won't keep me from checking out this author's next book, though.
Rating: Summary: Boooooooooring... Review: The first 100 pages were ok, but then when they are in France, the book becomes so boring: "...and then they drove through this town, and it was so beautiful, and then they stayed at this inn, and it was so beautiful, and then they drove through that town, and it was so beautiful, and then they ate here, and it was wonderful" etc. etc. etc. Not worth wasting your time on. Also, too much was written in French, and it was very predictable.
Rating: Summary: Totally Predictable Review: The title of this book, "The Last Time I Saw Paris" sounded intriguing. The description on the inside cover made it seem promising. Not so on either count. The 45 year old Lara Lewis only finds out that she has had an unhappy and unfulfilling marriage when she realizes her husband of 25 years has been having an affair with his much younger co-worker. Lara visits the family beach house to sort these revelations out. During her stay there she meets Dan Holland, a 32 year old contractor hired to do some repair work on the house. Predictably, they are attracted to each other, and an affair ensues. Lara then invites Dan to accompany her to France for a dream vacation. She neglects to tell him that the trip was a planned second honeymoon with her cheating husband. The dialogue between the older Lara and the younger Dan borders on ridiculous. The only convincing and well written spots in the book are the descriptions of the small villages and the picturesque french countryside. If you are looking for a book that is a thin attempt at lost love, found love, lost love, found love, then this book is for you.
