Rating: Summary: Ho Hum Review: This book is about Henri Gillet who is the brother of Robert Macbain (Highland Wife). Their father, Comte de Trouville, made his first appearance in The Knight's Bride.Anyway, Henri and his adopted son Everand (Ev), are returning from battle. Henri was wounded trying to save the lives of his men who all perished at sea. Ev went to find help for the seriously injured Henri. Ev meets with Iana, who is living in a peasant cottage after being cast out by her brother for her unwillingness to marry. Iana had barely survived her first marriage to an abusive man and vows never to enter into another union. She doesn't care who it is she is staying single. Iana is also the mother to Tam, who is very ill and almost died of starvation. She had promised Tam's dying mother that she would care for this child. Iana treats Henri and makes him promise to take her back to his brother estates in order for her to find work there. This way she will escape her brother and be the master of her own destiny. Half the book deals with their travels to Robert Macbain's home and the last half of the book deals with Henri trying to convince Iana that she should marry him. You meet many of the characters from previous books, which is nice, but does not make this a first rate read. I had no trouble putting this book down for a couple of days and then coming back to read it at my leisure. This is definitely a book that you should get from the library rather than purchasing.
