Rating: Summary: OK, but Veryan has written better Review: When Lucian St. Clair comes home from service, he comes home with a heavy heart. The woman who had stolen his heart was no longer a part of his life. As an English gentleman, he should marry Deirdre Breckenridge and therefore continue the family line. It would be easy if only he hadn't already fallen for an enchanting gypsy girl... I have read Veryan before, and I am a dedicated fan. I searched for this book, and I was excited when it came in the mail. But after I had read the book, I must say I was a little disappointed. Lucian and Deirdre were fine as romantic leads, but having read other Veryan books, I found that they seemed unrealistic. Deirdre was annoying and pathetic in her attempts for Lucian's attention, and Lucian seemed to succeed at everything. There was nothing the noble hero could not do, from racing horses to winning all the girls' hearts. Such perfection can be a little irritating, and the better and more noble he was, the less human he seemed. The other characters were more fun and believable, and I couldn't help but wish they had appeared more. I especially thought Jeremy and Amanda were cute. I'm glad I read the book, because it cleared up some confusion I had about situations in other Veryan books (Sanguinet Saga), but I wouldn't read this book more than once.
