Rating: Summary: The Bodyguard's Assignment Review: Amanda Stevens kicks off the Texas Confidential miniseries with "The Bodyguard's Assignment." Reporter Grace Drummond is on to the scoop of her life when she witnesses a murder. All she wants is to get herself and her mother into hiding. The only thing stopping her is Texas Confidential agent Brady Morgan. They were once in love, until Grace betrayed him. With so much on the line, can she trust him not to betray her?In my reviews of her "Gallagher Justice" series earlier this year, I said that the books were rich in story and characters while not quite as page-turning as her other books. "The Bodyguard's Assignment" has the opposite problem. This is a very fast paced tale. It is also the most shallow book I've ever read from Stevens. It's all action and light on the characters and story. The plot is almost nonexistent. They think they're safe, a sudden threat proves the villains have caught up with them, and they run. Repeat that about ten times and you have the story. There are no plot twists, not even any real plot developments. Safety, surprise, more running. That's it. In those quiet moments they share stories about their pasts, which accounts for some development of the romantic angle. There is no development of the intrigue element. The characters make no real attempt to solve it, more eager to banter about their relationship when they're not running. The romance receives some attention. The mystery is barely there. "The Bodyguard's Assignment" also falls short as the first book of this miniseries. The Texas Confidential agency is barely defined and the other agents blur together. The secretary made more of an impact than any of the agents. I was also unsatisfied with the ending. The details of the conclusion and the happy ending open up some unanswered questions and some issues that aren't entirely credible. I can't say this is a bad book because it held my attention throughout. I've also read all of Stevens' books except for a couple of Intimate Moments and this is the most unsatisfied I've been in one of them in years. It was enjoyable but I wanted a meatier story with more depth. I once compared one of Stevens' books to a roller coaster ride. "The Bodyguard's Assignment" is the ultimate roller coaster ride. It's exciting while it lasts but the effect doesn't last long once it's over. A fun, but instantly forgettable story.

Rating: Summary: A talented writer strikes again .... Review: I am never disappointed by reading an Amanda Stevens book. This is an author who can set a scene and create a mood better than just about anyone. But her real strength is her characters, all of whom are people you wouldn't mind having as next door neighbors. When you're writing suspense and intrigue, this is a true feat, and the difference between an adequate writer and a great writer. I would compare her work as a cross between Joy Fielding and Mary Higgins Clark. Mark my words, when Amanda Stevens decides to break out of category romance and go for a mainstream audience, she will be a huge star.
Rating: Summary: I love cowboys! Review: I have all of Amanda Steven's books and love them all! I am also partial to cowboys and am thrilled that The Bodyguard's Assignment's heroe is both a cowboy and a lawman. I can just picture those boots, jeans, and cowboy hat! As usual Amanda Stevens outdid herself. This book catches your attention right away and keeps it. She certainly knows how to do romance with just the right amount of mystery. Keep up the good work Amanda!
Rating: Summary: Action, Adventure and Romance! Review: I thought this book was terrific! I bought the book because of the cover art and the story sounded interesting. This is the first Harlequin book I have ever read and it was so much better than I thought it would be. Brady and Grace make a great team and they get into one fix after another. Their being reunited and the romance that reawakens between them was well done and believable. I would recommend this book to other men, who like action, adventure and romance. Very enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: This book is great Review: I've read most of Amanda Stevens' books, and this one is a little different, more of a suspense than a whodunit. But it has her usual fast pacing and great characters, and I really enjoyed it. You won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: An Action-Packed Road Trip!!! Review: The Bodyguard's Assignment is a fast-paced, action-packed road trip that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Gun fights, exploding trucks, chase scenes--this book has it all, but the romance isn't lost in all the excitement. This is also a tender story of reunited lovers, of trust lost and found. A book not to be missed!
