Rating: Summary: Good Fluff Review: If you are looking for a good afternoon read, this is it. The heroine want to escape her life for a weekend and meets the love of her life while incognito. The story could have used a little more conflict -- since I love gory murder mysteries, what do you expect -- but it's a nice story.
Rating: Summary: Recommended Review: Presidential daughter Jocelyn Wakefield grows weary of living in a glass prison. She longs to escape, just once, to wander the tourist attractions of Washington D.C. and drink in the freedom most folks take for granted. Hosting too many state events, and being compared to Jacqueline Kennedy can have that effect. In a sudden burst of inspiration, Jocelyn enlists the aid of her grandmother, an old tunnel once used as part of the Underground Railroad, and transforms herself into an ordinary woman for twenty-four hours. Once she makes good her escape, however, a rather rambunctious dog trips up her plans. Literally. The man who pulls her to her feet is political column writer Grady Tucker. In a time of the acerbic political humorist, Grady just pokes fun; bringing his targets with wit but without rancor. Yet Jocelyn fears that a representative of the very people she seeks to escape will blow her cover. A helpful passerby that remarkably resembles Santa Claus pauses to assists them. Soon Jocelyn finds herself grudgingly acknowledging her attraction to Grady. Unfortunately, her false identity makes any kind of relationship impossible. Readers in need of a bit of entertaining fluff will find Janet Dailey's A CAPITAL HOLIDAY a lovely read. While impractical, and in wake of terrorist activities, entirely too dangerous, A CAPITAL HOLIDAY does live up to the need to escape and have fun. Main characters are captivating while secondary characters like the grandma and her butler add special zest. The lively spirit that pervades the novel pays its debt of gratitude when characters acknowledge "Roman Holiday" and "Miracle on 34th Street" for inspiration. Lighthearted and amusing, this comedy sparkles with starry-eyed holiday spirit, coming recommended.
Rating: Summary: I WANT MY MONEY BACK! Review: Rarely have I suffered through a romance novel as I did "A Capital Holiday." Given Dailey's previous works, I was sure this one was just a little slow at first, but would pick up steam any page now. Forget it!!! The description of the heroine was over-the-top, the plot was insipid, and the hero was a big dork. Even the names were embarassingly sophomoric. I can't think of one reason to recommend this bood except perhaps insomnia! I wasted my money--don't do the same!

Rating: Summary: Wish I could give it zero stars Review: Simply put this book was atrocious. There was zero chemistry, zero plot and zero romance. The main characters "love" story was simply a convenient vehicle for Dailey to preach ad nauseum about American history and the origins of Santa Claus. And I mean that literally. This book is not a romance- in fact I felt sorry for poor Jocelyn, who just wanted a day of freedom and instead got to spend it playing nursemaid to an unbalanced reporter who claimed to fall in love it first sight - she was in disguise and LYING about the details of her life, and this is LOVE???- as well as be tailed by a supposed Santa Claus who gets most of the talking time. Yeah, that would make me fall in love- being preached to about the meaning of Christmas.... UGH. Skip this book if you have any sense. Most every romance I read goes into my library for rainy-day re-reading. A few get traded in to a used book store. This book joins an even more select few that go straight into the trash.
Rating: Summary: DON'T BOTHER Review: This book is the biggest waste of time in my ten years of reading romance....I was SOOOOOO disappointed. I am a major fan of the Calder series and have read some other Janet Dailey stuff. Based on her previous novels, I take her as a given author and have no problem purchasing her books....I certainly wasted my money on this one......PLEASE, don't bother!!!
Rating: Summary: Save Your Time and Money! Review: This is the first book of Janet Dailey's that I have read. It lacks the essential ingrediant to hold the reader's interest - a creative, intriguing plot. It took me over 2 weeks to read this book. I certainly hope that if I choose to read another of Ms. Dailey's books that I will not be so disappointed.

Rating: Summary: I WANT MY MONEY BACK! Review: What a dissapointment and a waste of time. First book of Janet Daileys that I didn't bother to finish. There was "nothing" between the characters!
Rating: Summary: Very Entertaining Review: What an entertaining novel. The perfect Saturday read. Janet Dailey continues to delive stories that makes me look forward to the next. The characters in A Capital Holiday are quite likeable and the story moves right along. This book reminds me of why I need a "Dailey" fix of romance. Whether a Harlequin or a larger novel, you will always find good romance in a Janet Dailey story.
