Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: Of course, this is going to be the definitive book on Apollo 13, written by James Lovell himself. I absolutely loved this book. It reads like a novel, instead of a dry technical briefing (ie Kranz's book, Tom Kelly's Lunar module book). Lovell was right to set the book in the third-person viewpoint, since that lends it to easily switch to Marilyn's role, and the flight controllers' roles in the flight of Apollo 13. Highly recommended for any closet astronaut such as myself.

Rating: Summary: A historical and entertaining book about a remarkable event Review: Our exposure to films with their special effects etc may make us blase' about the events of Apollo 13. I remember the true story and the prospect of being in a damaged spacecraft a quarter of a million miles away from the earth still makes me shiver. This book was written by someone who was there and while reading it I felt as though I had joined the crew of the unlucky Apollo 13. The book is very similar to the film (which you must see too!) but most importantly you know what it was like to be there. This is a tribute to the brave men on the ship but also all the staff at Nasa who got them back, and President Kennedy who sent them there.
Rating: Summary: It's a lie Review: There's very little else that can be said. Apollo 13 like all other Apollo professed achievements is a lie. It's simple as that. Jim L. is just a puppet in the US shadowy game of deceit and propaganda.
Space is 0 Kelvin degrees, that's about 270 below. Without batteries, all 3 astronauts would turn to solid blocks of ice within seconds. This book would have the silly millions of people who ignored the very basics of high-school physics believe that they spent 2 weeks in this hostile subzero environment.
Foregoing the myriad of other physical laws making man space travel impossible in 20th century, this simple temperature issue alone should be enough of a reason to convince even the biggest Apollo hardliners of the hoax and a lie that this book is.
See my Apollo 13 Movie review. It has more details about the looney-comedy the US gov't pulled and, as all my poignant reviews, it has been helping buyers make up their mind for some time now.
Rating: Summary: Great story of fear and courage Review: This book brillantly captures the heroism of those 3 brave astronauts and the thousands of people who worked to bring the three of them home.
Rating: Summary: A must read book for any one who loves space Review: This book displays the courage of the three men, what took place in Mission Control, and what happened at the Lovell's home. At first, I thought it would be just like the movie, or a one person narritive. But once I read it, I knew that I was very wrong. If you saw the movie, and thought that it was great, you must read this book. Apollo 13 the book is much better than Apollo 13 the movie.
Rating: Summary: Loved It! Review: This book is a must read for anyone interested in Mission Control or the Manned Space Program. Lovell and Kluger chose well when they decided to write in third person. Even with the distance of that style it's a provocative and exciting read.
Rating: Summary: It's a very good and realistic book Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read. It's written by an experienced astronaut who has been to space many times. The book is about Apollo 13 which was intended to land on Fra Mauro but in the evening on the first day in space the crew are assigned to "stir up their cryo tanks".
Then it happens: The crew hear a large BANG and they tell Houston:
-Houston, we've had a problem.
They find out that they have a "Main B bus undervolt"
and that they are venting something. Later they find out that it is the oxygen that is venting. The lunar module is built to keep two men alive for just two days, but now there are three men and four days home. The crew at Ground Control start to work on the problem. After a while they find that it will be to much carbon dioxide in the module so the crew on the ground control have to star working on that problem too. After a while they have built a filter that they want the crew in Apollo 13 to build. At least they succeed
to keep themselves alive and they splash down in the Pacific Ocean. When they are onboard the ship they go for medical tests. It shows that Fred Haise has got a heavy fever. The crew are honored with the `Medal of Freedom`
Rating: Summary: A Great Story that Leaves you Breathless!!!! Review: this is what got me interested in space travel. this book about the voyage of Apollo 13 will make you cry and will make you want to forget that it even happened. The authors of this story tell it so well you actually feel that you're out there with them. i highly recomnmend this book to all. even is you don't find this subject interestin it's a good book for all to learn about.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating look at space program Review: This novel is nearly nothing like the movie. It doesn't capture the suspense as well, which may steer you away from buying this book. Don't. Read it. It is an unforgettably fascinating read, marking the superhuman efforts of humans to bring back some lost friends. It is a warm tale of courageous efforts by the crew of Apollo 13, and of the extraordinary efforts of people on Earth trying to bring them back home. A must read
