Summary: Pretty good for Rexanne's first novel...
Review: ...BUT...it was her first, so not exactly up to par with her later novels. Kind of slow, with a somewhat boring plot. It was worth reading, but not a keeper.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Awful! Please don't waste you time on this
Review: I had previously read "Dangerous to Love" by the same author which I had liked very much so I picked this up with high expectations. What a disappointment! It is impossible to feel any sympathy or liking for the hero - I know that Regency authors like their heroes to be cads and rakes that are reformed by the heroines - but this particular hero is not worthy of redemption! He is thoroughly superficial, overly concerned with the heroine's looks and just a nasty person! That made the heroine's behavior that much harder to understand. I stopped reading the book three-fourths of the way through because I was too disgusted! Please don't waste your money buying this book - there is much better stuff out there.

Summary: Truly Unforgettable, a rare find
Review: I thought this book was wonderful!! It is about a very strong young woman, Lillian, who was once in love with a man, William, that her father forbade her to marry. At that he, married someone else and she was betrothed to Corbett. Then something happens and a battle breaks out and Corbett's father and Lillian's cousin are killed fighting against each other. At that, Lillian leaves town. Upon her return three years later, to attend her two sisters' weddings, her father is very ill and his castle is to be left in the hands of Lillian's sister and brother-in-law when he dies if Lillian does not marry. Her father does not want this for he wants his home to be left in the hands of his oldest daughter Lillian. And Corbett needs Lillian to be his bride so he can have possession of both places. At that, he pays her father a visit and, in result, she is once again betrothed to him. And she hates him for she blames him for the death of her cousin. From there, this book is full of heartache, happiness, anger, loss, mistrust, and jealousy. I highly recommend it. It is one of the best Historical Romance books I have ever read. Not your boring typical romance. She is strong and he is fearless. They have each met their match and this makes the perfect book.

Summary: Don't miss this book!
Review: I was surprised at the previous bad review - I wonder if she has the right book because this is not a Regency! If you love Medevils, don't miss this sweet story. He is a wonderful hero and she was a spunky heroine. This book is a keeper that I love reading again and again!

Summary: Pretty good for Rexanne's first novel...
Review: Lilliane never expected the unexpected; that she would have to honor her father's wishes and marry Corbett of Colchester. Ha! I loved the hero, Corbett had me in suspense. I never knew what he was thinking or feeling - definitely kept me on my toes. Aside from being her enemy - he turned her world upside down and gallantly made her fall in love with him!

Summary: Discord Reigns. ** Grade: C- ** -- A Low 3 Stars.
Review: Talk about hostility and mistrust, it is in full abundance in MY GALLANT ENEMY. And if ever, there was a more spoiled, childlike heroine than Lady Lilliane of Castle Orrick, I have yet to discover her!

In 2005, Rexanne Becnel is considered a personal favorite, her books are a must buy for this 'poor' reader. However, in 1990, when Becnel released this medieval romance, she certainly hadn't attained her future expertise.

Corbett of Colchester is a robust, arrogant knight. He returns to England a veteran of the hard-fought Crusades. Corbett is considered a favorite in the King's court. His assigned duty: to keep peace in England's volatile northern territories. To achieve his goal, he weds his enemy's daughter: Lady Lilliane.

Lady Lilliane of Orrick, the eldest daughter of Lord Barton, is not happy with her arranged marriage. Definitely, not happy -- until she hits the marriage bed -- ah, then she is stroked and pacified . . . until the morning light . . . and then . . . I hate you, my lord . . . And so on and so on . . . Bed me, my lord . . . I despise you, my lord . . . Bed me, my lord . . . And . . . so goes MY GALLANT ENEMY . . . Good grief! Grief: deep mental anguish, annoyance, or frustration -- exactly!

The book's friction is hung right around Lady Lilliane's pretty little neck! Becnel created a 'child' in this heroine. This confused, impertinent, young woman consistently scoffs at sound advice regardless of the ramifications. On the other hand, the reader REALIZES the consequences CREATING an uncomfortable read.

The years have been good for Rexanne Becnel; she has sharpened her skills nicely, developing into a very good author. To fully appreciate this enriched author, check out: "The Bridemaker", "The Heartbreaker", "Christmas Journey", or "The Maiden Bride". These books shine with Becnel's talent. On the other hand, MY GALLANT ENEMY is a stray.
