Rating: Summary: THE stone MAIDEN Review: this beautiful scottish story is a MUST for anyone who loves historical romance. Susan King Is a master storyteller who puts so much into a book. Her knowledge of Scotland and it's history is phenomenal and the reader actually feels as if she were living with the characters and part of their lives
Rating: Summary: marvelous prose Review: this book is in keeping with everything ms. king has ever done. fantastic! the parallel story lines of myth and the time period worked well on all levels.i esp.like the way she doesn't overload the story line with gratuitous sex just to move her books like so many do. always a pleasure to read and spent time with, her books are (i feel) for the thinking person to enjoy and they should be veiwed as the thinking persons romance. bravo, ms.king, keep up the quality work.
Rating: Summary: Sebastien Was The Perfect Hero... Review: This book was wonderful. It was interesting and had a very good story that dealt with emotions. Sebastien was perfect, so handsome, smart, gentle, compassionate, and sexy. I loved his subtle personality. He and Alainna were great together, too. Although some books by this author can get a little boring, this one wasn't. It was great!
Rating: Summary: One of the best of the lot Review: This is one of the most endearing and sweetest books around, and unlike some S.K. novels, this one isn't slow and boring, it's relaxed and romantic. Sebastien was not only handsome, he was a man of wonderful character. I'm not quite sure Alainna deserved him though.
Rating: Summary: The Stone Maiden Review: This is the first book that I read by Susan King. This is a story of Alainna MacLaren, the leader of Laren Clan and Sebastien Le Bret, a Norman knight. The story is beautifully written and I believe that Susan King did some reaserches about the timeline. The story itself is a bit slow, but afterall, it is a great story. Those two are committed to their own family, honour, and clan, yet they are attracted to each other... a must read!
Rating: Summary: A beautiful story Review: This is the second book I read by Susan King (I've also read "The Heather Moon"). This period of history has always been a favorite of mine. What I liked most about the book (excluding the powerful love that Alainna and Sebastien felt for one another)was that I really felt that I was there. I felt the emotions that the characters were feeling while envisioning the beautiful landscape of the Scottish highlands. One could feel like they were part of the story. That is how Susan King makes you feel. I just could not put it down. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who has yet to read anything by Susan King. I look forward to reading more Susan King novels in the future.
Rating: Summary: A Nice Love Story Review: This was a very laid back setting and the story was interesting. The hero was one of the best ever. He had everything; looks, intelligence, compassion, and he was sexy. Honestly, though I could have cared less about the "Stone Maiden" herself, I was too inthralled with Sebastien and his courtship of Alainna.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful and strong Review: This was the first book I read from Susan King and I have to say I'm impressed by her accurate historical view, her strong lyrical and story-telling talents. I'm much into stories about historical Scotland and if it's a story of such passion and true love, the better is it! I liked the characters, Sebastien le Bret being a man I could fall for and Alainna a woman one could envy. It is a wonderful romance and a must read!
Rating: Summary: Highly recommended Review: When the evil Tathars begin invading from the north, young Mandine Dascaris, heir to the throne of the Ascendancy, finds herself chosen by the Gods to undertake a dangerous quest in search of the mythical Signata, a little known artifact which could possibly save her people from destruction. Destined to accompany her is Key, a cavalryman of noble birth, and the man who has already saved her from certain death. Together, they must face peril and hardship in their journey and hope that their burgeoning love will lead them to their goal, as the dreaded enemy is led by the evil sorcerer Erkai, who bears great malice towards the Ascendancy. One of the downfalls with reading large amounts of fantasy fiction is the fact that so much of it is alike, following tried and true formulas. Fair maidens, handsome courageous men, evil sorcerers, magical fairy type peoples, mythical creatures etc... all thrown into a cup, liberally shaken and tossed out across a medieval landscape; it's been done to death!! Unfortunately, THE STONE AND THE MAIDEN, although well written and plausibly presented, is a product of this well known cookie cutter, and for that reason is as predictable and unique as the sun rising in the east each morning. For those legions of readers who live and breath this very successful type of story, this book will be a feast. For the rest, be wary.
Rating: Summary: Delicately Slow and Sweet Review: While I agree that some of Susan King's books can be boring and/or devoted to endless information on one's occupation, I found this one refreshing, due to the hero Sebastien. Although Alainna was petulant at times, she was fortunate to have found a man like Sebatien. Because he "clicked" with me from the beginning I found nothing boring about this story. I was completely captivated by him.
