Summary: A giddy social whirl was not for Serena
Review: COVER: "Serena Proudfoot had long ago resigned herself to looking after her invalid mother. Quiet, hardworking Serena was only too glad to be of service. Dutch consultant Marc ter Feulen changed all that when he became Serena's new employer. Arrogant, demanding and apparently blind to the interests of anyone but himself, he was not the sort of person Serena had ever before encountered. She was quite equal to the challenge, however. Her only problem was that in spite of all her efforts, she was falling in love....."This book is one of my favorites, because, if ever a heroine needed rescuing, it's Serena. She's not a nurse, but a secretary, and her mother is not really an invalid, but, as our hero puts it, "Selfish widows with loving daughters were still only too common, and this small, neat girl with beautiful eyes deserved something more in life." And thus begins the adventure that takes Serena to Holland, and then back to England. Through great changes in her life, and Marc's faithfulness to watch over her, Serena cautiously opens her heart to the possiblity of a love for a lifetime. If you like Betty Neels books, then you will be on familiar ground with this one, and, as always, you'll be happy in knowing that this little downtrodden, but deserving "Cinderella" does, indeed, get her Prince!
