Summary: Very disappointing
Review: I'm very glad that this was not the first Kathleen Eagle book I ever picked up, otherwise I would not have read any of her others (and would have missed out on a great author).
The main female character, Savannah, is just so selfish, self-absorbed and pathetic that you are hard pressed to feel any empathy for, or relate to her, in any way. She has a six-year old daughter,Claudia, mature beyond her years, who has to do the "mothering" at times because Savannah is not able to cope emotionally with all that has happened in her life over the last few years. The inappropriate role-modelling, and it's possible future consequences, made me shudder, yet another mark against the main female character.

The main male character, Clay,is well written, a nice blend of masculine macho and sensitivity. He is easy to relate to and care about, but he takes so much emotional rubbish from Savannah that it makes you want to scream at times.

Boring, turgid scenes of endless conversations, trying to flesh out and explain Savannah's background and present behaviour, make this book feel bogged-down and heavy. Early sex scenes without emotional bonding between the reader and characters don't help, either, and come across as almost bizarre in their description and placement in the story!

I was so bored and annoyed by this book, mainly because of Savannah that I skimmed a lot of it in the end.
Could not recommend, even with good characters like Clay and Claudia in it, the annoying, unlikeable character of Savannah overshadows everything else.

Summary: Thank you Mrs.Eagle
Review: In response to the reviewer who thinks Savanah is pitiful, fortunately you haven"t walked in her shoes. Kathleen Eagle has done it again. This story of Savanah, a beautiful model with breast canser will help us all to empathise with victims of cancer. It is also a great love story between Savanah and Clay. My description of the story will not do it justice. The varied relationships are handeled so well you feel as though you have visited with real people. Do yourself and every friend or sister you know and highly reccomend this book. The only problem with Kathleens books are they leave you wanting the same degree of talent and you find most other writers are lacking. If you haven"t read her other books, pick up "SUNRISE SONG" be ready to be higly entertained educated,(without preaching), and totally blown away.

Summary: The perfect romance
Review: In Sunbonnet, Wyoming the townsfolk are all excited over the return of supermodel Savannah Stephens for the first time in years. Savannah was a fixture on all the catalogues, but abruptly vanished. Now she has come home to care for her beloved ailing aunt. Especially elated about Savannah's return is Clay Keogh who always loved her. However, he knows that she was fascinated with his half-brother, a person wanted by the law for his overzealous activism.

However, Clay's dreams of this time being different are hammered when he sees the six-year-old child accompanying Savannah. Claudia Ann looks like a female miniature of his hiding half-brother. Although Savannah refuses to divulge the identity of Claudia Ann's father, Cole offers her a deal. If she marries him, he will become a father to her frightened little daughter worried about her mother's bout with breast cancer. However, marriage might interfere with her thoughts of returning to modeling.

Kathleen Eagle always provides a deep emotional tale that pulls on the hearts of the readers. Her most recent novel, THE LAST GOOD MAN, is a warm, passionate love story concentrating on various relationships. The characters make the novel, as fans will want to adopt Claudia Ann and empathize with the lead couple. Once again, Ms. Eagle takes her audience on a soaring sentimental journey.

Summary: THE LAST GOOD MAN
Review: It's been five years since Savannah's perfect body has graced the pages of Lady Elizabeth's Dreamwear Catalog. Now, no longer so perfect, she's come home to Sunbonnet, Wyoming. Clay doesn't care why Savannah has come home, only that she has. Savanna is all he's ever wanted. But when he comes calling, she won't leave her Aunt Billie's house. Not in the light of day, anyway. She's running scared. Hiding from the town and its questions. Hiding from the pain. Kathleen Eagle takes on a difficult subject with insight and humor. And a word of warning: find a comfortable spot before you sit down to read, because you won't want to move for awhile.

Summary: A disappointing read
Review: Kathleen Eagle is gifted author who creates books that are impossible to put down. When The Last Good Man was released, I immediately went to my local bookstore and gladly paid full price for a chance to enjoy this latest Kathleen Eagle book. What a disappointment! The only compelling character is Clay, the man Savannah marries. Savannah, the main character, is an unsympathetic self-involved woman who struggles far too long to come to terms with the after effects of breast surgery. The book is a series of endless drawn-out conversations between Savannah and other characters who populate this slow moving story. Mrs. Eagle's other books were beautifully written and compelling. The Last Good Man is truly not a light romance novel. It is a tedious reading experience. If you're determined to read this book, get it from your local library or wait until the book becomes available in paperback.

Summary: ONE OF HER BEST!
Review: Kathleen Eagle's issues are always compelling. The story is so emotional and realistic it is easy to picture a family member going through this trauma. No wonder Ms. Eagle's passionate writing wins so many awards! This book is sensitive and healing, in addition to being a sensual and satisfying romance. Keep it up Kathleen Eagle! We can depend on you for great romance!

Summary: Another Great Lovestory by A Wonderful Author
Review: The Last Good Man by Kathleen Eagle is a beautiful lovestory that deals with a serious issue. Savannah and Clay Keogh will stay with me for a long time as I felt they were real people, living their lives along with mine in Sunbonnet! This book is excellent. Characters were well developed...I hated it for it to end. Ms. Eagle, you are simply wonderful!

Summary: THE LAST GOOD MAN: a story and a labor of love
Review: This book is a tribute to my sister, Jill, one of the bravest women I know. She has faced and triumphed over a woman's worst fears. She was the young, single mother of a four-year-old when she discovered a lump in her breast. Her treatment included a procedure involving complicated reconstruction, which, in part, inspired this book. She helped me understand heroine Savannah Stephens's journey in THE LAST GOOD MAN.

"My mother is the most beautiful woman in the world," Savannah's daughter tells Clay Keogh, the cowboy/rancher/farrier who has loved Savannah all his life. When Savannah left Wyoming to become the symbolic face and figure of "Lady Elizabeth's Dreamwear Catalog" she knew all about beauty. Hers was right there in myriad photographs, for all the world to see. But now she's come home to hide from the world while she tries to figure out who she really is and what there is left of her for anyone to love. She needs more than a friend. She needs THE LAST GOOD MAN.

Summary: Good but Puzzling
Review: This was the first Kathleen Eagle novel I have read. I will say that Eagle is brave in her choice of issues and plot. Savannah, her heroine, is a former famous lingerie model who is attempting to recover from a mastectomy. The physical and psychological issues of cancer "recovery" are important, and I credit Eagle for dealign with them.

Clay, the last good man of the title, is a wonderful chracter, as is Claudia, Savannah's daughter. There are also a range of supporting characters who are vividly drawn.

My concern here is that Savannah doesn't come off as a particularly sympathetic character. I can empathize with her position, and maybe some of what appears to be selfishness or shallowness is supposed to be seen in the context of both her illness and her early life with a mother who emphasiezed her physical beauty to the exception of everything else, but Savannah's behavior to Clay is less than kind. I wished for better for him, even at the end of the novel.
