Rating: Summary: I Had Hoped for Better Review: This book was billed as being a good read for people who like Susan Isaacas. Not even close. I found this book to be both slow and obvious, not intriguing in the least. I finished it to find out "whodunnit" and was exteremely disappointed in how that was revealed. Jane Heller took a fundamentally good idea for a story and wrote it very poorly.
Rating: Summary: Name Dropping Review: This is a "cute book," with an adorable heroine, nice guy hero and many, many coincidences in the plot. It's not nearly as good as one of Susan Isaacs' books, which are frothy but intelligent. If you want to read something that's non-demanding but a bit more substantial than a Harlequin romance, this book is ideal. I was sorry I paid for the hardback.
Rating: Summary: INCREDIBLE! READ THIS BOOK!!! Review: This is an extremely entertaining, witty and intelligent book. It's not a typical romance or mystery although those elements are in it. It's a very good example of how a good book can be written without relying on hot sex or serial killers to grab readers as so many of other authors are doing these days. I'm not saying those are bad, but aren't you tired of the same things? This is a very refreshing book. I wish more writers wrote like her. Read a few pages of this book when you're down. It'll pick you up not only with the entertainment but also with a very important message. A definite winner!!!
Rating: Summary: Good, light read Review: This is the first book by Jane Heller that I have read. I found it to be a light, entertaining read, definitely worth my time. I found the characters enjoyable and the plot not too terribly predictable.
Rating: Summary: Good fast read, kept me laughing out loud... Review: This is the first Jane Heller book that I have read. It was a very light read. I read it in about 2 1/2 days. I really didn't want to put it down, but you have to go to bed sometime. The book is told in the first person. Nancy Stern, she is just a crack up and her life as a preschool teacher is filled with chaos, fun, laughter, love and A WHOLE LOT OF CRAZINESS! You really have to read it! The end will leave you sitting there with your mouth hanging open saying, "WHAT THE....OH NO"!
Rating: Summary: Good for a quick read to kill time waiting at the doctors Review: This story is more or less cliche with the expected plots, I have found little "depth" to this book: little ugly duckling find prince-charming. After trying to fight crime with her beau, she regain her self-esteem and find herself not so 'ordinary' afterall. However, I do enjoy the writer's sense of humour. Her "poignant" descriptions with American culture stereotyping makes it easy for readers to visual her writings. The book is targeted for the lazy readers and with little room for one's imagination (supposingly the juicy enjoyment of reading). Read this book when you are bored to death and would want anything that does not require much attention to kill time with.
Rating: Summary: Cute.... Review: This story was very cute and fun but a little predictable. Nancy Stern begins receiving invitations, flowers and phone calls that are far too exciting and glamorous to be for her, when she realizes that another Nancy Stern has moved into the building. She finds it funny then annoying and finally one day takes a phone call from a man for the other Nancy Stern and goes on a date with him. Pretending to be the more glamorous Nancy Stern was fun, but she soon begins to fall for the guy and she must tell him who she really is. More incidences of mistaken identity pull her into the middle of a murder, a jewel theft investigation and she realizes that the man she has been dating has also been dishonest about who he really is. This is a fast, light read - very cute!
Rating: Summary: First time is a charm......... Review: This was a "loaner" from a friend. I work in a Nursurey school where people have alot of mone and I could almost put the names of the children in the book to my class. I was very impressed at how easy this was to read and it kept me interested and turning pages fast. I love the main character, and I was always looking for some kind of loopole during the whole book. Thank you to my friend for giving me this and "turning" me on to Jane Heller.
Rating: Summary: Good, not great Review: This was a good, but not great, light read. Somewhat predictable but still enjoyable. However, the last chapter was unnecessary and didn't seem to fit with the rest of the book. The story was basically over and the chapter went on and on about wedding details to a level that didn't fit with the rest of the book and that I, for one didn't, care about. It seemed like a travel advertisement for a particular island. I did especially enjoy the sections dealing with Nancy's pre-schoolers; they reminded me of stories from a teaching friend. If you liked this book, try those by Janet Evanovich or Sue Grafton. I also recommend "Getting Over It" by Anna Maxed. It has a lot sharper (warning: and meaner) humor and a much deeper plot.
Rating: Summary: Great for the Mary Higgins Clark crowd. Review: Two Nancy Sterns are living in the same luxury NYC highrise apartment building. One is a boring, mousy preschool teacher and the other is a beautiful, glamourous journalist. Mousy Nancy starts to mistakenly receive mail, flower deliveries and phone calls for Barbie Doll Nancy and decides to try on the glamorous lifestyle for a change. She accepts a date meant for the other Nancy and then the hijinks begin. This is a book written more for the Mary Higgins Clark crowd rather that the Bridget Jones/Jemima J. generation. No sex or violence to speak of, along with a highly unlikely fairy-tale ending made this book just a bit disappointing.
