Rating: Summary: Wow Jane Heller never ceases to amaze us Review: I cannot even find the correct wording to explain this book. I am not an avid reader by any stretch of the imagination. I started Name Dropping at work one night and within 24 hours I was done. No the book was not small..I was so intruiged that I could not put it down. I eventually put it down to sleep but the next morning I was up and my nose was in the book.Cheers to you Jennifer
Rating: Summary: A Good Evening's Entertainment Review: I don't look to Jane Heller for a great reading experience but I do look to her for a night's light, comic entertainment and she always delivers. This newest novel is no exception. I can blast right through one of her books because they are easy and fun. This has a nice fantasy aspect too where the heroine tries on someone else's more glamorous life to meet her man.
Rating: Summary: Jane is TOPS! Review: I enjoyed Name Dropping so much that I hated for it to end (in less than 24 hours). Ms. Heller's books generally affect me that way. She's a wonderful writer and keeps me waiting for more. I've been hooked on Ms. Heller since I read her book The Club a few years ago. After reading The Club I went out and purchased every book of hers that I could find. For me she became one of those authors who I would purchase on faith alone. I think you will enjoy this book so go out and get it.
Rating: Summary: Light? Try Flimsy. Review: I found this book a little too "light" and "breezy." While it was somewhat enjoyable due to a likeable heroine and an interesting plot device, when I was done, I felt the same way I do when I eat a Milky Way bar: fun while doing it, regretful when finished. I sort of felt that at the end of my life, I'd like to have back the time I spent reading this one. The heroine was just too perky, and the boyfriend just too perfect and good for my taste. With so many great books out there and so little time, I cannot recommend this one.
Rating: Summary: 5 stars? Give me a break! Review: I purchased this book because of the good ratings it received here at Amazon from editorial and fan reviews. I also thought the premise of the book would make it a fun and interesting read. But I was duped! I found the writing to be amateurish and boring. I did manage to finish it, it was a quick read but I would only recommend this book if you can get it at the library or wait until it comes out in paperback. Buyer beware and take those 5 star reviews with a grain of salt.
Rating: Summary: Great & fast summer read Review: I really enjoyed reading this mystery/romance. This is my first Jane Heller book to read and I enjoyed it so much, I am now in the middle of Female Intelligence. I think that we have always fantasized about what it would be like to live like a "celebrity" and this book lets you sneak a peek into the world and realize that the grass may not always be greener on the other side. There were many LMAO moments & a definite page turner!
Rating: Summary: Good Idea But Poorly Written Review: I was really dissapointed with this book. When I finished the book I put it down and just shook my head. The idea behind the story was good and had a lot of potential but the author did not deliver. Most of the story was contrived and there were far too many happy coincidences. The author asked you to beleive far too much without questioning motive. I found myself saying "why didnt he just tell her that???" or "what could have possibly prompted her to do that?". The characters were very thin and didnt really change much by the end of the book. There was far too much time spent on unimportant characters and sub-plot lines and not enough on the characters and storyline that was the focus of the book to begin with. The main conflict was not even brought into the mix until the middle of the book! In some of the best mystery/crime books I have ready you know exactly why you are reading the book by the second chapter. By the end of the book I was bored and found it distressing that after the mystery was solved and everthing was all A-OK there were still a few chapters left to talk about the heroine's daily life again. But the thing that bugged me the most was that after all was said an done with they just tell you who the major domo of the crime group was and there was NO reason to suspect him. It was just cassually thrown in there like a "oh and by the way, guess who was incharge of this whole thing... isnt that amazing. who whould have thunk it?" So, I give this book a really big thumbs down. I found much more pleasure in the Janet Evanovich series.
Rating: Summary: AN EXCELLENT, ENTERTAINING QUICK READ Review: I've read all of Jane Heller's books and this one, once again, does not disappoint. It kept me up for a few nights with its clever dialogue, witty twists and turns, and down to earth heroine. I believe we can all identify with Nancy Stern in some way. Who hasn't envied someone else's life only to discover that it's not quite as great as you thought. If you want to be very entertained in a lighthearted way, read a Jane Heller novel. You will get your money's worth.
Rating: Summary: Thoroughly enjoyable Review: I've read several of Jane Heller's novels, including Crystal Clear, Sis Boom Bah & Infernal Affairs. Name Dropping tops them all. Bill & Nancy were characters I cared about. Ms. Heller did a wonderful job of creating two completely different Nancys and putting them into a plot that, for me anyway, was believable. I'm sure that many of us have, at one time or another, wondered what it would be like to step into a more glamorous life and once we'd tasted it, I'm also sure that some of us would be, like Nancy Z, reluctant to let it go. Bill Harris was a man with a few secrets himself. How they are revealed and the ramifications to his relationship with Nancy was one surprise after another, held my interest, and kept me glued to the story. Ms.Heller created an inriguing blend of mystery and romance and wove them together against the backdrop of two disparate environments: a pre-school and an upscale jewelry store. The cast of secondary characters was not so long as to bog down the story and contained enough variety to spice it up. I liked this book much more than Sis Boom Bah, and hope Ms. Heller's next novel is as good as Name Dropping.
Rating: Summary: Major waste of time Review: If only I'd listened to Sharon and Martina, I wouldn't have wasted my beach time on this one. The characters are thin and the plot coincidences unbelievable. This shouldn't have passed Fiction 101.
