Rating: Summary: An enjoyable read Review: "River Rising" isn't the most powerful of Merline Lovelace's recent works; it is an enjoyable read. The military setting is useful as a back drop to the relationship between Carly and Ryan. Of the two main characters, Ryan is the more compelling and finely drawn. As a former hockey star who is at the end of his prision sentence, his presence in the story brings out the passion in everyone. Carly seems the usual female JAG officer, working towards promotion, but getting sidelined by the electricity between she and Ryan. While the story is rather weak, even this makes the book an easy, enjoyable read. After one taste of Ms.Lovelace any reader will be searching for her past books and looking eagerly for her future selections.
Rating: Summary: Guilty of creating another passionate military romance! Review: Although a raging flood threatens Major Carly Samuels, the greatest danger--to her heart and to her body--is Ryan McMann, a convicted felon and former athlete with a dark and mysterious past. Carly's dedication to her career as an Air Force attorney forces her into close contact with Ryan, a beautiful, blue-eyed former hockey player who was a witness to a murder Carly is required to investigate. Despite Ryan's refusal to reveal details about himself or the murder he witnessed, Carly discovers enough information about Ryan and the murder to find herself immersed in a rising river of flood waters and a rising tide of love and lust which threaten to overcome her. As an Air Force attorney, I can vouch for the accuracy of Ms. Lovelace's legal detail. As a University of Vermont graduate, I can appreciate her acknowledgement of my alma mater's athletic prowess. But most importantly, as a woman, I can vouch for the fun and exciting read Ms. Lovelace presents. The mystery is interesting, the characters passionate and the plot fast-moving. As Debbie Macomber says, "Each new book is an enjoyable adventure."

Rating: Summary: A romantic military intrigue Review: At Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, a fellow student jogging in the rain spotted the murdered body of Lieutenant Colonel Smith. Ex-convict and resident at the nearby prison, Ryan McMann, a former hockey great, testifies that he saw the vehicle of the deceased's spouse Michael Smith at the scene. Since Michael is also an officer, the military assigns Major Carly Samuels of the Office of the Commandant Judge Advocate to conduct an Article 32 investigation. As she interviews the witnesses, Carly finds Ryan is distrustful of lawyers, having concluded they all are lowlifes. She feels he knows more than he's telling. For that matter she feels he knows more than the civilian police investigating the murder. However, she observes and hears about little acts of compassion performed by Ryan. As the duo falls in love, her investigation takes a twist that leaves her wondering if she can trust Ryan since he held back information on her inquiry. When it comes to military romances, no one provides an insiderss look within a warm relationship novel than former Air Force Colonel Merline Lovelace. Her latest novel, RIVER RISING, is a clever examination of the military legal system that has some unique rules not seen on the civilian counterpart. The action-packed story line moves faster than a flooding river. The changing relationship between the lead protagonists turns this tale into the wonderful winner that fans of the sub-genre expect from Ms. Lovelace, who soars once again. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: This book sizzles with intrigue and possibly....Truth! Review: I am in the Civil Service at Maxwell/Gunter AFB in Montgomery, AL...All I can say is--WOW! This book (River Rising) has a lot of folks here wondering how much (if not all) of this story is true! It is very controversial around the base and I know for a fact the base Library does not carry a copy of it. Merline Lovelace was once stationed here at Maxwell/Gunter so it really carries a touch of intrigue for us (and truth if the old stories can be believed). Not many people will appreciate this book but in my opinion "River Rising" is worth reading--at least once--if you have any connection at all to the military.
Rating: Summary: Can't understand how it got such great reviews Review: I love military book so I thought that I would at least like "River Rising" by Merline Lovelace. Boy, I was wrong. Can't say one thing positive about this book. I found the two main characters to be unbelievible. I don't know why of reviewers like Ryan (the main male character) to me, he seem completely unlikeable. And Carley (the main female character) didn't act like someone who was in the military officer. I have to say that the other reviewers of this lead me to a bad book.

Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I've enjoyed all of Merline Lovelace's previous books; but, unfortunately this one is disappointing. I never grew to care about the main characters and they seemed to be more in lust than in love. Much of the dialog in the sex scenes is crude and awkward.
Rating: Summary: Good romantic suspense Review: River Rising is a military thriller that grabs the reader by the throat and doesn't let go until the last page. Carly Samuels is a multi-faceted heroine and Ryan McMann a hero to die for. As the flood waters rise, so does the danger...and the passion.
