Summary: Tamara Leigh keeps getting better!
Review: Having read four of Tamara Leigh's previous books, I purchased this one expecting another good story. But Leigh outdid herself with Blackheart, and completely surpassed my expectations. She perfectly captures the inticacies of the time period...i.e...dress, setting, speech, etc...giving them a fabulous realism where I feel as if I've visited the era and place. Never having the time to sit through and skim a less than exciting book, it is difficult to find a book which holds my attention. Blackheart, and Tamara Leigh, definitely know how to hook a reader on the first page. She had me from line one. I planned to read the first chapter and the rest later, but looked up after an hour to discover I'd finished five!

A well-crafted and unique story about a wounded villain who forces his wife to seduce the man he feels responsible for his maiming and inability to father children. A man who holds a secret attraction for the very woman who comes to him in darkness. And the woman who blames him for the mock marriage she now endures despite all her childhood hopes and dreams of love. This book is loaded with conflict, and the kind of memorable characters that stay with you long past reading.

The story brims with sensual tension between the hero and heroine, building into an inevitable love that leaves the reader wanting more. It is rare, also, to read such a human villain who one both despises and pities...the combination of a great villain.

Add to all this Leigh's wonderfully vivid prose and engaging dialogue, and I would encourage any romance fan to try Blackheart, as well as any Leigh book!

Summary: Loved it!!
Review: I discovered Tamara Leigh about six months ago when I bought the book Saxon Bride in a used book store, and she immediately became one of my favorite authors. I searched high and low for her other books, but unfortunately could not find any of them. A couple of weeks ago, I'm shopping at Target, and what do I see but a new Tamara Leigh book called Blackheart. I grabbed it without even reading the back cover, because I knew without a doubt that I would love that book also. Well, I wasn't disappointed - what can I say about Gabriel and Juliana's love story - it was incredible, and I was captivated from the very beginning, and did not want the book to end. I am hoping that Alaiz will have her own love story. Last week, I was fortunate to be the high bidder here at the Amazon auction for Tamara Leigh's "Bride" series books (even though I already have Saxon Bride, I had to have the others), and when they came in the mail the other day, I started reading Warrior Bride and stayed up way past my bedtime because once again, I was lost in the world of Ranulf and Lizanne and their love story. There are very few books that I consider to be "keepers", but Tamara Leigh's books in my opinion are "keepers". Keep up the great work Tamara!

Summary: One of her very best
Review: I started with one book, this one was the first and I couldn't put it down until it was finished. Ms. Leighs writing is very special and if that sounds cornie I am sorry. The story is beautifully written and the characters real, so much so that you're hooked on them. I have one question. When is the sequel due to hit the book stores. I want to find out what happened to the sister who was kidnapped by the brother of the man she murdered in self-defense.I hope Ms. Leigh plans on writing one because I am sure I am not the only fan who is asking the same question.

Summary: dragon head, sneak tail, good bad guy, bad good girl
Review: Juliana and Lord Bernart Kinthorpe were betrothed and in love when Kinthorpe went to Crusade with his friend Gabriel de Vere. In a reckless battle which de Vere advised against, Kinthorpe was badly injured - he sustained a thigh injury and lost his male organ. Kinthorpe blamed de Vere for it, believing de Vere was too coward to come to his aid. After being held in a prison for a time, Kinthorpe came home, a broken, bitter, and angry man. He was consumed with hatred for de Vere. Juliana found out about Kinthorpe's condition on their wedding night, but it was too late to do anything about. A few years had gone by, the love between Kinthorpe and Juliana had long dimmed, but they co-existed agreeably, Juliana remained a virgin. Kinthorpe began to show symptoms such as lack of facial hair, change of voice and weight gain. Rumors also started to circulate about Kinthorpe's lack of heir. To put an end to the speculation and to finally get his revenge on de Vere, Kinthorpe lured de Vere to his castle in the name of tournament, and forced Juliana to seduce de Vere in the darkness so she can get pregnant by him (and so he can steal de Vere's child). At the end de Vere found out the nightly visitor was Juliana and felt used. Four months later, he abducted the pregnant Juliana to his castle.

The book is very interesting up to this point. The villain, Kinthorpe, is especially well drawn. He is multi-dimensional, like a real person. I can feel his anguish, hopelessness and dilemmas. I cannot help but pity him.

However, the story becomes progressively boring and irrating after de Vere and Juliann arrived at his castle. They had a few brief interactions there, and all of a sudden they fell in love. Up to then, besides a couple nights together back in Kinthorpe's castle, all he had done to her was to take her away from her sister who needed constant care and protection, and treated her with contempt after abducting her, then eventually locked her up to prevent her from escaping. And as for him, he believed she was faithless and scheming. It's not convincing that they could come to love each other there and then. Before giving birth to the child, Juliana insisted the child was Kinthorpe's and de Vere insisted it was his, however, after the birth they suddenly swapped their mind, she said it was de Vere's but de Vere now denied it. What was going on? In the beginning Juliana appeared to be a strong and sympathetic heroine, but towards the end she became a clinging type in de Vere's arms (how many time she said 'don't leave me'?). Her husband, Kinthorpe, is not a total evil and has feeling for her, but she seems rather cruel to him, at the end Kinthorpe lost everything and was humiliated. The second half of the book is really flat, it didn't do much to develop the characters or their relationships.

I give it two stars, one for good beginning (dragon head), one for good villain (good bad guy).

Summary: stimulating
Review: Reading Blackheart was my first experience in the romance genre, and I could not stop myself from turning the page to find out what happens next. Such was my interest and excitment that I kept reading for days. I am so curious about what will happen to one of the characters that I am sure to read the sequel. I would definatly recomend this book to other rookies to romance novels like myself!

Summary: 4&3/4 stars
Review: This book is almost excellent. Some of the things that bother me are personal and might not bother anyone else. The characters are interesting and the story line has a few new twists. I really enjoyed the book. It was definitely an entertaining read. What I did not like is the weak ending and the obvious gaps left for a sequel. I don't mind multiple books with connected story lines but the "sister sub-plot" in "Braveheart" was too over developed and as a result leaves readers uncomfortably dangling. That is cruel punishment. Because so many issues were left unresolved, it gave the story a weak and unfinished ending. If a writer plans to carry the story line forward into other books, then they should tease the reader gently. Still, with all my personal pickiness, "Braveheart" is more than just an average good read.

Summary: WELL WORTH THE WAIT
Review: Though all of Tamara Leigh's books have a permanent place on my shelf, the long-awaited "Blackheart" stands above all my "keepers". This powerfully and beautifully written story not only has the most original plot I've seen in what seems forever, it's characters are so realistic they make you believe in them. As for the pace, with all of Tamara's books, this one was no different, it's break-neck, so you'll likely read it in a single sitting. Prepare to be touched, not only by the trials Juliana and Gabriel must face, but the triumps! Everytime I thought I knew where the book was leading...I was happily mistaken, the plot is very unpredicable. If you want a "feel good" cry, the scene where Juliana gives birth to their son will do the job perfectly. Though "Blackheart" was well worth the wait, I hope a sequel won't be too long in coming. Welcome back, Tamara Leigh, you've truly been missed. You have the ability, and always have, to make a woman walk away feeling better about life in general. Though your books take you on a ride, it's a ride that sticks with you long after the book has been put in it's place on the shelf. Don't miss this book, yes it keeps you hanging for the sequel, but as I said in the title...IT'S WELL WORTH THE WAIT. :)
