Rating: Summary: Heart-Rendering Review: I don't usually write a review on books that already have several, but this time I felt compelled to, due to the negative comments that this gem could be miissed out on by many that would enjoy it. It has plenty of spark and fire to the contrary of what another reviewer wrote. I thought the reasoning behind the plot was unique and very feasible. Granted it's not for the reader who does not like the dominant male. Avenel Salne is all of that and so much more. He doesn't steal an heirloom when it belongs to him. He only forces Brienne to stay in order to protect her, although naturally he doesn't tell her that. He is a very troubled man with dark brooding within who needs love to soothe injustices against him and his family and of course, he is fighting against this intrusion on his familiar and safe ground-revenge. Brienne is adorable as she tries to stand up against him and escape his brooding hate. She is strong but not spoiled nor is she a shrewd about it. I loved her. I realize this book isn't for everybody but it certainly is for us who love that tormented hero who is forced to give up his demons in the name of love. There is no more of a moving story than to see that hardnose hero transformed into the loving human being he is meant to be once he conquers the demons plaguing him. These heroes love so fiercely and so protectively. You can rejoice with them and their ladylove once they are free and safe within the cocoon that loves provides. I hated for it to end. Lie Down in Roses by Shannon Drake was another good one on this line along with Rosehaven by Catherine Coulter and My Lord Conqueror by Samantha James. Some don't like these, but some of us do. So please keep in mind that there is a place for all books, for there are numerous readers out there with just as many likes and dislikes. And the one you hated, someone else loved and the one you loved, someone else hated. That's why we have numberous authors.
Rating: Summary: Another good one Review: I have read all of Meagan McKinney's historical romances and I have enjoyed them all, including this one. She is one of my favorite authors. In response to the review by "Offensive to the Extreme", I think it was a bit harsh. All of Meagan's men are dominating on the outside because they have dark pasts that make them vulnerable on the inside. In the long run, the female character brings out the good in them, although she must endure a little cruelity to do it. If you don't like male dominance then you may not like her books. But, I think most of us read romance for the fantasy not the reality. I would highly recommend all of her historical novels.

Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down Review: I loved this book, in fact I love all Meagan McKinney novels. This is a MUST READ for those of you who love historical romance.
Rating: Summary: No choice but surrender Review: it was okay...brienne sometimes annoying because she is so weak...wished we could have read more about Avenel's thoughts and feeling...did the author write a book on Ralph Harcourt?
Rating: Summary: Should Have Read The Reviews First Review: There are several reasons why I hated this story, but I will only discuss my top three. First, we have the typical hero with a tragic past who thinks it is perfectly fine to inflict misery on others because of it. He will imprison the heroine, touch her body at will ignoring her protests, using her as a pawn in his plans for revenge and the hell with who he hurts in the process. Second, we have a heroine who is described as having a strong will but we rarely see it. Anytime she tries to stand up to the hero, she melts from his scorching kisses. I just hate authors who use this whole scenerio. It's kind of insulting to our sex. If a guy has taken you prisoner in his home, stolen a family heirloom from you, and informed you that he was going to get revenge on your father by making you his concubine, would your resistance against him disappear once he kissed you? Last of all, I just did not see what deep feelings they had for each other at the end of the story. When I read a story by Lisa Kleypas, Mary Jo Putney, Karen Monk or Jo Beverly, I have no doubt in my mind that the hero and heroine genuinely love each other. When this story ended, I mostly felt sorry for the heroine. Whatever assertiveness she has will eventually be crushed by the hero.
Rating: Summary: Should Have Read The Reviews First Review: This is the first book by Meagan McKinney that I have read and I absolutely loved it. In fact I am reading it for the 3rd time now. I have to disagree with the comments in previous reviews that Brienne is too weak and that the book is offensive. One has to remember that this story took place in 1780. Women didnt have the voice that we do today. I think Avenel is one of the most interesting and attractive characters I have come across in a long time. Yes, he is very dominating but in a way it adds to his charm. I think this story was well written and I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys a good romance novel!

Rating: Summary: Disappointing. Review: This is the first time I am writing about a book I didn't like.I just finished reading it and I did enjoy it until the moment Brienne gave into Avenel again after she knew he only seduced her to get even with her father. What a spineless woman! Where was her self respect? That she even spoke to Cumberland and Rose after was ridiculous, since they knew of his plans all along....PLEASE! I forced myself to finish the book and then pitched it.
Rating: Summary: Offensive to the extreme! Review: What an offensive disappointment. I have read 4 other Megan McKinney novels and have been very pleased, but this one was a letdown. The title itself is offensive. Here we have a young woman who is imprisoned by a complete stranger, who forces his guards to physically refuse to let her leave his property. This man repeatedly touches her body her over and over again and imprisons her, steals her property including a precious heirloom, and what does she do? She gets "turned on" and bends to his will every time. There is no fire, no spark, he simply overpowers her and she barely questions it. Despite all that he's done, she spends her day agonizing and crying over the fact that she gave his horse a few blisters! Most of Megan McKinney's novels that were written after this one feature firey, exciting relationships. This man is a creep. I find romance stories involving forced imprisonment by men upon women to be offensive, especially if they are not handled properly. Brienne, the main character in this story, is a silly twit. As is Ms.McKinney for allowing this to be written!
