Summary: not so sweet 16
Review: 16 year old Gina has a crush on 26 year old Rhyder and sets out to get him. Rhyder is torn between being attracted and being responsible. Gina becomes reckless and Rhyder decides to do the right thing but the end result is that Gina is seen leaving his boat, crying and wearing next to nothing.

Gina lives with just her grandfather who is determined to make Rhyder do the right thing and marry her. They marry and spend the night together, then Gina overhears Rhyder talking with a friend about paying anything to be rid of her and, angry, Gina agrees to an annulment (which would be quicker than a divorce) in exchange for money.

Years later, Gina is a lawyer and runs into Rhyder again and this time, Rhyder begins pursuing Gina. After some of the usual lovers' misunderstandings, they find happiness together.

My biggest gripe is that there was such a slim pretext for Gina and Rhyder's marriage. Sure it would've been a scandal, but so what? She'll live. Far worse to marry her off at 16 to a much older and unwilling fellow, I should think. I can understand Rhyder being scared by charges of statutory but Gina should've shown some gumption and dug her heels in. Such wimpiness from a girl who determinedly pursued a much older man only hours before? Then Gina demanding money in exchange for the annulment. Sure she's young and her pride was hurt to be called a gold digger, but then she goes ahead and instigates being bought off? It would've been more in character to demand an annulment and refuse any money to prove her integrity.

Readable, but too many glaring plot holes that were not carried off convincingly enough and incongruous character behavior made this story far from great.

Summary: This is the 1st romance book I ever read-I'm hooked-J.D.=#1
Review: I found this book many moons ago as a teen, after reading it I was hooked on romance novels and especially took pains in finding everything written by Janet Daily! I now have to wait for each book to be published. I have bought the last printed copy of Summer Mahogany, as well as have my first! I am looking each month for a new title to search for, and I'm happy that Ms. Daily gives you a taste of the next upcoming book at the end of the one you're reading! Thanks so much, Kimber

Summary: not so sweet 16
Review: I regard Janet Dailey's Americana series as modern-historical comic books. No insult intended. There are many of them (one for each state) in this series of somewhat short novels which reflect the good old non pc days --- interesting for a change, sometimes.

Summary: short and sweet
Review: This is my first Janet Dailey and I found it refreshingly simple and heart-tugging at the same time. Gina is a young, naive girl when she first meets the older, more sophisticated Rhyder. Gina falls in love with him but after one fateful night and a misunderstanding, they go their separate ways. Just when Gina feels her life is hers again, they meet again after 10 years and this time it is Rhyder who pursues Gina. Janet Dailey captures the essence of an idyllic summer in Maine as she meant to do. As a short novel, it is a very quick read that is worthwhile.
