Rating: Summary: So disappointing Review: How could a romance book, written by Joan Wolf, be disappointing? Read this and you will find out. Lady
Rating: Summary: Hated it... Review: I absolutely hated this book. It was probably the worst book Joan has written. She has written some great stuff in the past but not this. Alexandra Wilton is a dolt. Her cousin, Geoffrey, who thought he would inherit the estate and title from her father, the Earl, is in love with her. But...it turns out that a highlander named Niall is to inherit and marry the beautiful Alexandra. He is a dishy man but once again, Joan Wolf goes for the bride who refuses to sleep or consumate her marriage. Why would a female refuse to or at least at some point consider sleeping with ones oh so handsome husband to at least have children? It makes zero zero sense, especially since Alexandra loves her home so much that she never wants to leave. Wouldn't she want a child of hers to inherit? The romance between Niall and Alec is not very interesting, basically not in existence. What blows my mind is that Geoffrey tries to kill Niall several times. Alec refuses to believe it when Niall tries to tell her. When Geoff finally admits it to her, she wonders how soon he can come calling on her again where Niall won't be mad....what? Oh, yes, attempt to kill my husband by buring him alive, running him down with a coach, shooting, well, let us all be friends and come for tea. How stupid was that...
Rating: Summary: Such Disappointment ! Review: I am so disappointed. I adore Joan Wolf books and have been eagerly awaiting this one for months. However, I find myself struggling to finish each page. The writing is so juvenile, and Alexandra is possibly the most annoying heroine ever. All she does is complain, and speak "coldly" to people. What I loved about Joan Wolf's previous novels was her ability to develop relationships between both characters. This novel is not original. I find it hard to belive that Joan Wolf wrote this. The storyline and encounters between Niall and Alexndra are boring. I don't feel the sparks between them. I feel like yawning. For all of you who loved The Gamble, Pretenders etc, do not buy this one. The writing style is radically diff. from the previous books and very much like the generic romance drivel you find elsewhere. Sorry fans. This one doesn't cut it.
Rating: Summary: Hated it... Review: I choose books to read based on two factors: either I like the author and enjoyed his/her previous books, or the storyline looks promising. I've never read a Joan Wolf novel, and I don't think I will after this. I expect a romance to carry me away to another world - a world full of passion, seduction, maybe even a little intrigue. This book fails on all accounts. The passion is promising in the beginning, but completely fades out about half way through the book. There was absolutely no seductive scenes, I could not even tell if they had done anything intimate. And finally the villians were so weak that they weren't even an impact in the storyline. I rarely put a book away without finishing it - but I was sorely tempted to do so with this book. I was deeply disappointed and recommend that you look elsewhere if you want a truly romantic escape. -TEP

Rating: Summary: Terribly, Terribly disappointed Review: I have been a fan of Joan Wolf's regencies for many years. I spend hours in book stores looking for her old ones (The Rebellious Ward, A London Season, His Lordship's Mistress, etc.) and have found most of them. When she started her regencies again with "The Deception", I was thrilled and wait with baited breath for each new one.Someday Soon is just not in the same class, however, as "The Guardian", "The Arrangement", "Golden Girl", "The Gamble", "The Pretenders". I agree ... that the character development of the hero and heroine is shallow. The development of their relationship was even worse. It was hard for me to care about either one of them, or to believe that they cared about each other. I'm not sure why she abandoned the first person narrative convention that she used in the other books in this series, but it did not help the character or plot development at all. Also, what does this title have to do with the story?

Rating: Summary: Deja Vu, All Over Again Review: I just finished reading SOMEDAY SOON and ...I just finished reading SOMEDAY SOON and... is there an echo in here? Reading Ms. Wolf's latest is like reading two or three of her earlier books. This isn't a new book - it's a patchwork quilt of her previous works. There is a line about Helen and Hecuba that is right out of A SCOTTISH LORD. It's a good line but, unfortunately, you can only use it once. Alexandra reminds me of Catriona from THE REBELLIOUS WARD and the obsessive cousin is a complete lift from AN ARRANGED MARRIAGE. If you have read none of these books - you'll enjoy this one, although it's not one of her best. But if you have read the earlier books, I'd advise skipping this one - unless you have a thing for echos.

Rating: Summary: Another Great Story from Wolf Review: I love it when I see that a new Joan Wolf book has been published because I know that it will be a quality book. Her newest book about an English noblewoman and her Highland husband, Someday Soon, is no exception. This book has romance intrigue, a great hero and heroine and a strong story line. Lady Alexander Wilton is one of the most beautiful women in England. She is also one of the most stubborn, she wants to marry for love. After three seasons and innumerable marriage proposals her father loses patience and adds a codicil to his will that forces her to wed the seventh Earl of Wilton, who everyone thinks is her Cousin Geoffrey. Of course her father dies soon after adding this to the will. If she does not marry the seventh Earl all of her fathers un-entailed wealth will go to the Jockey Club. If this happens Alexander will be without money and her beloved home will be without funds. Only Geoffrey is not the seventh Earl, a wild Highlander is. Niall Macdonald is the grandson of a Highland Chief and the son of the late Earls younger brother. He is the rightful heir. What I enjoyed so much about this story was that it was a story of equals, while Wolfe never specifically gave Niall's age it was inferred that he was around the same age as Lady Alexander who is 21 years old. Niall was kept from being portrayed as a callow youth by his responsibilities and his care for his people as the Mac-Mhic-Donnail Chief in training. He vows to never love a frail English woman even though he is half-English himself and she is sure that she could never love a Highland barbarian like him. Of course since this is a romance they are both wrong. Someday soon was a wonderful book, a quick engaging read with a sweet love story. The main characters are equals are both likeable characters and most of the secondary characters are engagingly drawn although if a couple of them had been taken out it would not have changed the story line really at all.
