Rating: Summary: Valerie, Stick To Mysteries! Review: I am a huge fan of Valerie Wilson Wesley's Tamara Hayle mysteries and that's why I ran out to the bookstore to buy this book. After struggling through this book, I realized how much I missed her other books. The storyline was too predictable and it was slow getting to where you knew it was going. I knew the ending to this book after the first 2 chapters but it just seemed to drag on and on before it got there. My recommendation is for anyone who hasn't read her other books, read them and skip this one.
Rating: Summary: First time reading this author Review: I heard so many good things about Valerie Wilson Wesley. In my opinion, this was an OK book. I found the characters very predictable and the situations as well.I look forward to reading some of Ms Wesley's other books.
Rating: Summary: I'm Feeling This Book! Review: I read this book and thought she was talking about me. My group "Sistahs With A Vision" had a good time reviewing this book. Everyone seem to feel like Eva. I look forward to the next book, hurry up, Please!
Rating: Summary: Extremely Disappointed Review: I bought this book when it first hit the book stands. To this day, I have not finished it. It was extremely slow and disappointing. It only takes me 1 day to read Valerie Wilson Wesley's novels. I may have stated that this was a good book if I wasn't familiar with the author's work, but because I am familiar with the writers material, it was very disappointing. I love Valerie Wilson Wesley's work. I periodically seach the web and the stores for upcoming books. After reading this book, I implore Ms. Wesley to please stick to mystery. She is wonderful at MYSTERY novels. She should not stray.
Rating: Summary: GOOD READING Review: THIS AUTHOR HAS DEFINATELY OUT DONE HERSELF WITH THIS ONE. SHE HAS CAPTURED SOME OF THE MOST PROMINANT PROBLEMS THAT FAMILIES FACE TODAY. SHE HAS GIVEN NEW MEANING TO THE TERM DISFUNCTIONAL FAMILY. I WAS ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT. REAL GOOD JOB!
Rating: Summary: Well written tale of midlife romance Review: Fun to read and well written. A story that revolves around the lives of two 40 somethings and that includes sex and love is hard to do well. Valerie Wesley's descriptions of the joy that Tamara had in re-discovering sex is well done. It might be the most believeable part of the book. In fact it brought back uncomfortable memoies for me. Also she makes her main female character unattractive at times another difficult thing to do well because later I think we are supposed to like her. I did not like her as much as other reviewers.
Rating: Summary: STICK TO WHAT YOU DO BEST Review: IT TOOK ME 3 WEEKS TO FINALLY FINISH THIS BOOK! And this is very unusual for me and a Valerie Wilson Wesley book, I can usually read her in 2-3 days. Ordinally, I am a big fan of her work, I have purchased and read every one of her books. I was sorely disappointed with this venture and the book failed to hold my interest for any length of time. It was truly a struggle to read. I agree with one of the other reviewers, there is far to much description. Unfortunately, I think she should stick to what she does well - Tamara Hayle!
Rating: Summary: GOOD BOOK Review: I JUST FINISHED THIS BOOK AND WOW! I DEFINITELY RECOMEDED THIS BOOK. I JUST PICKED IT OUT OF THE LIBRARY ON A WHIM. I DONT USUALLY LIKE MYSTERY BOOKS BUT IM THINKING ABOUT GETTING HER OTHER BOOKS.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I had really expected a much better read than this from Ms. Wesley. While reading it, I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong and then I realized it - the writer talks to much! Instead of letting the characters act and react, Ms. Wesley had to describe every scene. Everyone was shouting, stomping, brooding, standing, rising, gesturing, snarling or some other action. I found myself skipping all of that in hopes of getting back to the dialogue. The storyline is great though - older woman who carries on with her daughter's ex-boyfriend - but I felt like Ms. Wesley didn't know what to do with such a juicy storyline. The characters weren't fleshed out very well and I found myself continuing to read it because I had invested so much time in it already, I might as well finish it. I'd have a hard time recommending this one to true book lovers.
Rating: Summary: The Let's Discuss It Book Club... Review: We found the novel to be quite entertaining, although some inconsistencies were found. The book provided easy-reading with a simple story line. Instant gratificaton and little concern for the feelings, or needs of others, seemed to be the overwhelming theme throughout the book. The book did keep you wondering what would happen next.
