Rating: Summary: The Phantom of the Opera returns . . . beautiful lovestory! Review: The story of the Phantom of the Opera continues with Becky Meadows' Progency. Seventeen years have passed since that fateful night at the Paris Opera House. Christine Daae has married Raoul and they have a son, Christian. Erik has been dead many years. Or has he??
There are so many twists and turns in this story. My attention never wavered. Secrets are slowly revealed. Secrets that alter the future for everyone. Has Christine finally made peace with her past? Has she forgotten her Angel of Music or does his voice haunt her still? What will Christian do once he discovers who his real father is? And more importantly, is Erik really dead? Or is he alive still living under the Paris Opera house?
This story blew me away. I could not put it down. I was so caught up in the emotion of the characters especially Erik and Christine. The love they had for each other was eternal. Even death could not destroy their love. Near the end, one scene made me cry like a little girl!
I felt all of Erik's pain. His deep despair and heart-wrenching grief over Christine's death. I cried and longed to wipe those tears from his eyes, to give him some comfort before his anguish drove me mad.
True love is eternal and there was no purer love than Erik and Christine's. Death had no power over these lovers. Nothing could keep them apart. Deep under the opera house, their voices are heard, singing together in perfect harmony. Together forever onto eternity. How I cried . . .
I can't say enough about this story. It was so well written, so filled with sorrow, rage, mystery and above all, a love that could not be denied. For anyone who has fallen in love with the phantom, this book is for you.
Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Okay but no classic Review: The story of The Phantom of the Opera has been retold many times. I see nothing wrong with this. In fact, I openly rejoice in a story that is so versatile that nobody will ever be able to completely explain its mystery. However this versatility, and in consequence the prolific number of rewrites created, poses a problem. In order for a rewrite or a pastiche to be truly memorable, it must needs be told by a writer with considerable story-telling skill and sufficient knowledge that allows them to make the story believable. Meadows, unfortunately, seems to have neither. The book itself isn't completely aweful. The characters and the plot are consistent and you find no significant holes or problems with flow and dialogue. That, in itself, is a notable accomplishment. The main problem with this book is that there's virtually nothing original about it. Meadows uses all the old Phantom cliches, coming up with no unique material. And her writing style is mediocre at best. I felt no outrage at this book, but it was actually rather boring due to its lack of creativity. When she talks about her character Christian (a cliche in himself as Erik and Christine's love-child) following Erik through the opera cellers desperate to discover his identity, the effect is almost comical. As a result, the story has a very amateur air and comes off as sounding like a passably-skilled Internet fanfiction. My recommendation would be to go ahead and read this book, and even add it to your collection if you collect Phantom-themed books, but don't spend too much money for it. It really isn't one of the more memorable Phantom stories.
Rating: Summary: Stupendous! Review: This book is great! The characters are not only well developed, but Ms. Meadows shows an insight into them that few other authors do. You won't find Erik like he is here in any other Phantom novel! I was breathless at the end of the book.
Rating: Summary: Marvelous! Review: This book kept me reading even after I was too tired to read. Meadows has a wonderful way of writing that totally enwraps the reader in the plot. I read until 3 a.m. one morning because I couldn't put Progeny down. I can't believe this book isn't in the Amazon Top 100. Phantom of the Opera fans and especially Erik and Christine lovers, don't miss this one--you'll regret it if you do!
Rating: Summary: Horrible Review: This book was horrible. I felt like I was reading a very bad soap opera. Also, who did the editing and checking in this book? Being a proofreader, I was horrified at how bad the spelling and grammer was.If you want to read a better Phantom book, read Susan Kaye's wonderful "Phantom".
Rating: Summary: PHANTOM PHANS--DON'T MISS THIS BOOK!!! Review: This is one of the best follow-ups to Gaston Leroux's "Phantom of the Opera" that I have read. What would happen if... if Erik really didn't die at the end of Leroux's book... if Christine and Erik really did make love before he "died"... ? The result--Progeny, a whirlwind of a read and a must for any Phantom phan!!
Rating: Summary: This is a MUST for every 'Phantom' fan... Review: When I first picked this book up I couldn't put it down. Becky Meadows captured Susan Kay's Erik and Christine, It picks up where Ms. Kay left off. It exudes passion that you rarely find in a good love story. I felt as if I were falling in love for the fist time.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT - BUY IT! Review: When I first saw this book, I was skeptical about any follow-up to 'Phantom of the Opera'. However - this book flows and has such an intriguing story line. Not just a mere romance novel, Ms. Meadows goes into depth of character with Christine, Erik and Raoul that Leroux did not in the original novel. What a great read - keeps you riveted until the ending. You will not forget the characters because they will stay with you. I actually MISSED the characters when I finished it! This book is well worth the money! I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS A WONDERFUL READ!! Review: Wow, Phantom phans--this book is a must read! :) This book powerfully combines the writing techniques of romance, mystery, and gothic horror fiction. Meadows spins a tale of love, mystery, and woe that will leave you breathless and crying at the end. If you haven't treated yourself to this book, you owe it to yourself to do so! This is one of the few books I have read that actually paints a picture of Erik that is like my own, and Christine in this work has more power than in any other Phantom-related text I have read. Great job!!! :)
