Rating: Summary: good romantic suspense Review: Police officer Ben Whelan loses his job when he nearly kills the animal who raped and murdered his pregnant spouse. Following that incident, Ben becomes an insurance investigator, wandering from town to town and case to case. He fears allowing anyone to get too close to him because he worries about unleashing the beast that resides inside him. His policy of non-emotional involvement abruptly ends when he visits Riverview, Michigan to investigate the death of two close friends, who died within a few months of each other. The daughter of one of the deceased, Maggie Spencer, is horrified to learn that Ben thinks that someone murdered her kindhearted father and his gentle friend. Soon, a third death of another close friend occurs. The link connecting the three deaths seems to be the weekly poker attended by the victims and three other players. For some unknown reason, a serial killer has raised the stakes of the once friendly card game. As Maggie and Ben work together to stop the killings, an obsessed maniac is keeping them under close scrutiny to insure that no one interferes with his master plan. NO REGRETS is a very exciting romantic suspense that peels away the illusion of small town camaraderie (by cleverly using poker buddies) to reveal the muddy undercurrents that lie beneath the placed surface. Readers will appreciate Pat Warren's latest work that showcases a powerfully growing romance within an action-packed story line. This novel is a necessary read for Krentz and Roberts fans, especially those who want to try something fresh. Harriet Klausner
