Rating: Summary: terribly disappointing after Deep End of the Ocean Review: I felt cheated by the ending. This was an amateurish effort not worthy of the author who wrote Deep End of the Ocean. Her prose is, as always, wonderful, but the plot was ridiculous and the ending just unbelievable.
Rating: Summary: A Real Book. Review: This is real life. This is the real world. Arley, a 14 year old, mature physically and intelligent but her common sense is that of her age. Annie, her attorney has her own life she is dealing with. Both touch each other. Both have relationship problems. One of a 14 year old the other of a 40 year old. The poems in the book are are typical of what a 14 year old would write...some full of intelligence...others full of her naive life decisions. I loved The Deep End Of the Ocean...but this book is an entirely differnt story and I love it more.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed after Deep End of the Ocean Review: I bought this book because I loved The Deep End of the Ocean, but I have to say I wish I hadn't. It was REALLY hard to get into. I did not like the Annie chapters at all. I found myself skimming these chapters. About half way through the book I finally got into it, and I liked the ending. However, I hope they don't make a motion picture out of this one.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good read except it can be a bit confusing at times Review: I liked the story but I didn't like the poems as much. I didn't think that they were that great. Writing the story thru the eyes of both protagonists was good. I didn't like the way it was written as a series of flashback though. Good book overall.
Rating: Summary: Worth the time Review: There are times in this book when it seems like Mitchard is too long-winded, but the ending result is worth it all. About 1/4 of the way thru I became deeply intrigued, and I wanted to know the ending right away. The way that Mitchard took the chapter writings to bring Arley and Annie together as a family was unique in that it showed how two different lives can be touched and altered by two completely different circumstances. I await to see what Mitchard has in store for us next. I have to admit though that Deep End of the Ocean was to long winded as well and that Ben's return came too soon-until the story was no longer about Ben but about Beth.
Rating: Summary: Don't buy this book!! Review: The writing was disjointed and confusing in the beginning. I particularly disliked Annie and her chapters of supposed character development. Arley was not believable. If Arley was allegedly a smart girl, why would she marry an older man in prison. Her dialogue made her sound like a Texas "valley girl." Like totally, dude. It was nonsensical. It was also completely predictable and distasteful!! I say so what and who cares about these characters.
Rating: Summary: Author is Jacquelyn Mitchard??? Review: This cannot be the Jacquelyn Mitchard who gave us The Deep End of the Ocean. I am so disappointed in this silly book.
Rating: Summary: Such a disappointment. Review: I found ''Deep End of the Ocean'' completely absorbing, and so enjoyed Mitchard's writing style that I was able to forgive the unfathomable plot twist of Ben's return. I grabbed this book off the shelf practically the day it was released, hoping to be engrossed in the same way. I am unable to forgive the heavy-handed writing and foreshadowing of this novel, the ludicrous plot devices and the paper-thin characters. I also cannot forgive myself for actually having finished it - can I have those hours back at the end of my life, please?
Rating: Summary: A baby gets a baby.. Review: I found Arley's maturity a bit unbelievable. Granted she had to grow up quickly having an indifferent mother, but still...At times she seemed more mature than Anne. Arley's husband was a bit unbelievable too. Author has nice style and didn't make me cringe through steamy love scenes.
Rating: Summary: Just okay.... Review: This was okay but not a page turner for me. Was kind of boring in most areas and I also didn't like the different sections for Annie and Arley. Just didn't keep my attention. I wished the Charley Annie relationship was more developed. All in all it wasn't terrible, but I definitely liked her first novel better.
