Rating: Summary: She's so smart yet so dumb! Review: Arly Mowbray is a 14 year old who's beuatiful, athletic, extremely intelligent, and has a best friend. So what is missing in her life that would push her into the arms of a twenty something prisoner? One word...neglect. Her family has nothing to do with her. Her mother treats her as if the only reason she keeps Arly around is so she can keep the house clean and cook for her lazy, older brother. When Dillon LaGrande pays extra special attention to Arly; written poems about her, telling her how wonderful she is, etc. she falls madly in love. This story is wonderfully written and it's not your typical coming of age story. It's a nice mix of detail, character building, and a good solid plot. I give this one 4 stars.
Rating: Summary: Definitely worth your time and money! Review: If you are looking for a good book to curl up with, read on the road, or simply sweep you away this is it! I really loved this one, have bought it a number times to share with friends. I found it much more engrossing than Deep End of the Ocean, and while I liked that book also I cannot recommend it with the confidence I can this one. You will get caught up in caring for a young girl, being swept away as she loses her virginity, watch her grow smarter and stronger, and cheer for her and her lawyer. Very fun, perspective writing so you can get in the heads of different personalties and get a good perspective. This is well worth it!
Rating: Summary: A very good book Review: ... I fell in love with this book. It was easy to read and follow the story line. I could not put it down. I took it everywhere. It was so good I wished the story didn't end. One of the best books I've read.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't Put It Down! Review: I thought this book was wonderful. It captured my imagination and I was unable to put the book down. I was disappointed when it finally came to an end. I look forward to reading other books from Jacquelyn Mitchard.
Rating: Summary: Contrived, but readable Review: I was pulled into "The Most Wanted," but found myself becoming more disillusioned with it as I progressed. The two main characters are interesting, likable, and well-drawn, but from the start (even in the prologue), the foreshadowing is gimmicky. I kept waiting to read about the cabin and the fire, and it was quite different and in some ways "less dangerous" than I expected. Further, the relationships between Stuart and Annie and Annie and Charley get resolved too easily. In the end, everyone ends up happily living in the wonderfully renovated house, each getting what he or she wants, with only a few nightmares to disturb the peace.
Rating: Summary: Mitchard serves up a winner Review: After being drawn in to "The Deep End of the Ocean", I was excited to see that Jacquelyn Mitchard had written a second book. However, the book got rather poor reviews from several national sources, and I held onto the copy of the book I had purchased for over a year without reading it. I didn't want to be disappointed after liking Mitchard's first effort. But a few days ago, when I picked up "The Most Wanted", I was pleasantly surprised. Though the plot isn't incredible, this author has the ability to capture the reader's attention with her prose. It makes for a pleasurable reading experience, if not an experience that strains the intellect. I was a little concerned by the easy way that Arley's life is wrapped up - most stories of teen oregnancy do not end on such an upbeat note. But Mitchard strains to point that out, that it's Arley's very unusualness (if that is a word) that determines the outcome of her life. So I guess I can forgive that unreality of ending. This is a great book to bring to the beach. I'm looking forward to reading Jacquelyn Mitchard's new book that is due out this week!
Rating: Summary: Fascinating characters and storyline! Review: I found this book to be as good as, if not even better than, "The Deep End of the Ocean". The plot may seem farfetched to some, but I found the characters to be very "real" and believable. I was dying to know how it would all turn out, and I could barely put the book down until I reached the end. A bittersweet love story . . .
Rating: Summary: This one grabbed me right from the start Review: I loved this book. And I don't say that often. Even though I read the book several weeks ago, I still think about it and recommend it to others often. I, too, felt like I was actually 'living' the story, and it was one of those books that when I finished, I wanted to cry because I never wanted it to end. The story of Arly and Dillon really touched me. Ms. Mitchard does an excellent job of character development. They just seem so real. I've read her other books, but this one is my favorite. A wonderful read!
Rating: Summary: Very strong, original story Review: Somehow this book was able to keep me eagerly anticipating each new chapter. I feel as though I were actually there witnessing these events; Jacquelyn Mitchard made the story seem so real and just come alive. I believe that the characters are easy to identify with and I actually felt genuine emotion towards them, even catching myself with tears in my eyes on more than one occasion. This is a magical, special book that will go straight to your heart. The story is unique and heartbreaking, all the while with an undercurrent of impending danger. This is a fabulous read for anyone wishing to be throughly moved and entertained.
Rating: Summary: Disturbing... Review: This novel greatly reminded me of one of Oprah's recent choices, Back Roads by Tawni O'Dell. Richly developed characters involved in somewhat unusual circumstances surrounded by teen angst and growing pains made for an engrossing novel. Anne, an almost forty-something attorney represents Arley in a court case to be allowed to have a "wedding night" with new husband prison inmate, Dillon. The story also covers Anne's ripening relationship with Stuart, a death row attorney, and her realization that Stuart is not necessarily the one for her. Things go haywire when Dillon escapes from prison, and Arley and her child's lives are in danger. I would not call this a happy novel, much like Back Roads, but it's definitely one that will keep you involved to the very last word.
