Rating: Summary: ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!! Review: BEYOND A PROMISE is a book filled with lies, secrets, incest, affairs, lost loves and broken hearts. This book made my heart ache with the devastation it left behind in my mind. How can his be categorized as a romance when there was nothing romantic about it? Just when you think a romance is budding to life, it gets crushed with a murderous blow. I kept reading it, hoping that something good might come out of this disaster of a story, but it just got worst. I guess I was asking for too much. I felt that the ending was obsurd and callously cold. I refuse to throw away the book because I paid for it, but I keep it out of my sight. I do not recommend this book, it is a waste of time and money. Trust me!
Rating: Summary: Missinformed about all homeschoolers being overproctive. Review: Great Book. One exception, the author is missinformed about all homeschoolers. The majority of homeschooled kids in this country score well above the national average on SAT and ACT scores. Homeschooled children are generally found to be very socially adept with adults as well as with their own peers. I am public school teacher, wanna be homeschooler. Research this Ms. Bickmore before you make biased remarks.
Rating: Summary: Good book, but not her best! Review: I am an avid reader of Barbara Bickmore books. "The Moon Below" was the best book I have ever read and I have managed to find all of her books but one. "Beyond the Promise" characters are interesting and believeable and the plot has its twists and turns which keeps your interest until the end. My daughters have read the book and they all liked it. Of course, we are waiting for her next book...out when???
Rating: Summary: How could you not love it! Review: I couldn't put this book down from the moment that I picked it up, it was so great. For those reviews that talk of how sexist, how much sex, etc, if you can appreciate the love that people have for each other and tragety and reality of life then this is a great book, just have an open mind. This is a book that touched me and showed me the love of one family and of their friends. I don't know how anyone could not love this book.
Rating: Summary: I could not put it down! Review: I loved this book! The descriptions of the Oregon landscape made me feel I was there. I cared deeply for the sympathetic characters and their compelling stories. I've laughed and cried through many wonderful Barbara Bickmore novels, and loved them all ... but this one is my favorite. Thanks, Ms. Bickmore ... and keep them coming!
Rating: Summary: One of my best reads to date! Review: I thought this was one of the most tantalizing books I've read of Barbara Bickmore. I was kept on the edge of my seat the entire time reading. I can't wait for her next book to come out!
Rating: Summary: A big disappointment Review: I was surprised to see the blatant sexism, racism, and homophobia in this novel. On top of that, the central character drinks when she's pregnant, even though she knows it's not good for the baby. To make matters worse, the jacket copy reveals the fate of one of the main characters which makes it impossible for you to feel anything for him when disaster strikes -- he's almost superfluous from page one. I didn't even bother to finish this book.
Rating: Summary: not to my liking Review: If you like incest, multiple adulteries, multiple casual sex couples, senior sex, recreational sex, you will love this book. this is quite a different Barbara Bickmore from her historical novels.
Rating: Summary: Not what I expected from a romance novel! Review: This book made for interesting reading. It was hard to get into at first, but picked up quickly. I was very disappointed to see that the main character, while pregnant, continued to consume coffee and alcoholic beverages, not seeming to care about her unborn child. I checked the publishing date to see if it was a reprint from something from the past. The ending was not at all what I expected... it surprised me. This book was okay but not the greatest I've read.
Rating: Summary: surprises Review: This book was full of surprises. Everyone and everything somehow were related. Full of cliches. But the surprise was that it was not a bad book, pretty interesting love angles.
