Summary: Just what the doctor ordered!
Review: A charming and engaging tale of true love between childhood friends. A magical faery legend interwoven into a fairly simple, but not weak, plot. A pretty, brave heroine, a sexy handsome hero. What more could you ask for? An enjoyable romantic story that I read in one day. I can't wait to read Swan Maiden and Stone Maiden. This book was just what I needed to brighten up a rainy day. Also recommended: Sandra Hill's The Last Viking, Outlaw Viking, and Christine Feehan's Dark Prince.

Summary: Excellent story of first love
Review: Excellent!! A tender story of "first love" that mixes history and legends. It's beautifully written, with a great subplot about Joan of Arc. I loved the smith hero and the feisty sword-weielding heroine, and there is lots of action and swordplay to keep the story moving. Intelligent, well-crafted, good story.

Summary: Good book!!
Review: Gorgeous writing, genuine characters with real emotions, and authentic detail, everything I love about Susan King's other books (of which I have read 3 or 4 now) is here in The Sword Maiden. I see that Amazon picked The Sword Maiden as one of their Best Books of 2001, and with good reason. Fans of the best of Scottish romance will be very happy with The Sword Maiden!

Summary: Historically steeped "true" love tale ....
Review: Have you read the Swan Maiden? This book is 10, no make that 1000, times better than the Swan Maiden! ... yes that good.

This is my favourite Susan King ("King") novel, but admittedly only my second, and the more I read of King the better I like her style and stories!

This story incorporates a tale of a faery blooded princess, a sword of light, and the man who wins her heart ... so begins the story of Eva, descendent of said faery princess, and Lachlan the black smith who hopes to be the man who wins her heart!

A most excellent, believable storyline with wity dialogue and characters.

Well worth the read; you will definitely read this one again!

Good reading, Kristina

Summary: Fascinating and wonderful
Review: I am a huge fan of Susan King and this book is exactly the reason why. Eva and Lachlann's story is the perfect ending to this wonderful series of stories. The MAIDEN series is filled with Scottish legends both real and imagined, and this one in particular is unique as it "forges" a connection to the Joan of Arc story in history with a magical Sword of Light.

Don't miss these books!

Summary: Too Much Emphasis on Job Descriptions...
Review: Lachlann and Eva could have been very interesting, and the overall plot wasn't too bad, but for heaven's sake, I want dialogue between a hero and heroine that tells a story, not a line or two thrown in just to remind us that there ARE characters in this book, while the author relates page after page ...after page, of smithy work. I appreciate her knowledge of the craft, but I didn't like it as the focal point for the ENTIRE book. This was much more about smithy work than a love story.

Summary: Good beginning, regular story, bad ending
Review: The beginning of the book is good, so it hooked you to continue, but the rest of the story is boring and guess what, at the end they get married, come on, you can't write that way a book, if you really want to read an excellent love story with an enchanted sword read Until Forever by Johanna Lindsey and you will see the difference between two girls that had a sword and a story to tell.

Summary: The Sword Maiden
Review: The Sword Maiden third of the trilogy of Maidens this is a beautiful sensual love story between

Eva Macarthur guardian of her island home who desperately tries to save her family and clan from the english through a betrothal to an english commander and Lachlan Mackerron foster son of the local blacksmith.

Susan King has once again produced a masterpiece with her research and knowledge of Scotland in the fifteenth century.
The love between Eva And Lachlann draws the reader in throughout the story which has a surprising twist in it.

A skillful beautifully written story that keeps you entralled from the first page to the last a must for all readers of Scottish historical romance
