Rating: Summary: Original Plot and a Great Read Review: The Bride Finder has a dynamic plot and a great romance story that gives a truly enjoyable read. I certainly could not put it down.
Rating: Summary: This was wonderful! Review: Finally, a romance novel that has good love scenes (though not a lot); a strong, though sensitive hero with common sense; a smart non-whining, non-temper tantrum taking heroine with common sense, humor, mystery, fantasy.....This book had everything all wrapped up together in a wonderful package. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have since ordered Night Drifter which I hope will be just as good as the Bride Finder. Please take the time to treat yourself and read this book.
Rating: Summary: Great Escapism! Review: This is a very original plot carried out well by Carroll. After reading this book I did go out and look for her others. She is getting better with each experience. If you enjoy Julia Garwood or Catherine Coulter you will enjoy this read.
Rating: Summary: NOT EVEN CLOSE TO MS. CARROLL'S BEST WORK Review: I have enjoyed Susan Carroll's regencies for years, and I was led to believe that THE BRIDE FINDER would be every bit as delightful. I was disappointed. While there are characteristic bits of Ms. Carroll's humor to be found now and then, neither the characters nor the plot sparkles like some of her best work. I was frankly bored. I kept hoping . . . and hoping . . . but finally I realized that there is a lot of froth here, but not much substance. Even Cornwall didn't feel like Cornwall, sorry to say. My advice, go buy a reprint of one of her regencies. You'll have a better read.
Rating: Summary: Good story, mediocre execution Review: This is an intriguing story! But it didn't quite end up being as good as it could have been. The plot had tremendous potential, but was stifled by the writing style. Carroll just isn't a good enough writer to carry through -- her "suspenseful" scenes aren't suspenseful enough, her emotional scenes aren't quite intense enough, and she allows too many cliches into her work. Still, it was fun to read a romance that had so many other facets to it than just love scenes. Her characters were decently developed, as well, in contrast to some of her other books.
Rating: Summary: Pretty darned good! Review: What a relief to finally find someone who can not only plot well, but has a fine hand for writing and characterization as well -- in the romance genre, no less! I'd been through ten romance books in the past few months and was astonished at the mere fact that such garbage had gotten printed, but here comes this book to reaffirm my faith in the genre. Sure, there are a few cliches, but even those are well-written. I would have appreciated a toning down of the hero (who fits the typical romance mold), but the heroine was refreshing and not the totally-liberated woman that you so often find in historicals. The author even handled the sex scenes with penache, a rarity. I will certainly be keeping an eye out for more of Ms. Carroll's work!
Rating: Summary: A GOOD BOOK Review: I really liked this book, and had a difficult time putting it down. You fall in love with the characters. . .good read. If you want to read a book that goes straight to your heart, read Stolen Moments by Barbara Jeanne Fisher. . .It is a beautiful story of unrequited love. . .for certain the love story of the nineties. I intended to give the book a quick read, but I got so caught up in the story that I couldn't put the book down. From the very beginning, I was fully caught up in the heart-wrenching account of Julie Hunter's battle with lupus and her growing love for Don Lipton. This love, in the face of Julie's impending death, makes for a story that covers the range of human emotions. The touches of humor are great, too, they add some nice contrast and lighten things a bit when emotions are running high. I've never read a book more deserving of being published. It has rare depth. Julie's story will remind your readers that life and love are precious and not to be taken for granted. It has had an impact on me, and for that I'm grateful. Stolen Moments is written with so much sensitivity that it made me want to cry. It is a spellbinder. What terrific writing. Barbara does have an exceptional gift! This book was edited by Lupus specialist Dr. Matt Morrow too, and has the latest information on that disease. ..A perfect gift for someone who started college late in life, fell in love too late in life, is living with any illness, or trying to understand a loved one who is. . .A gift to be cherished forever.
Rating: Summary: A worthy read by one who knows how to tell a good story... Review: Susan Carroll has a unique ability to weave a tale that wraps around the reader until they are drawn into the story itself. You can't help but connect with the love, the fear and the humor that motivate these characters. Susan is a gifted storyteller, who has that unique ability to capture a reader's fancy and play it for all it's worth. Bravo, Susan! Can't wait to see what you do with Prospero!
Rating: Summary: HOOKED FROM BEGINNING TO END. Review: I EXTREMELY ENJOYED THE BRIDE FINDER. THE SUSPENSE, ADVENTURE, MAGIC AND MOST OF ALL THE UNDENIEABLE LOVE HAD ME TURNING THE PAGES. I WAS VERY HEARTBROKEN WHEN I WAS NEARING THE END TO KNOW THAT THE STORY WOULD NOT GO ON. THEN, TO MY RELIEF THERE IS A SEQUEL. THIS WAS MY VERY FIRST SUSAN CAROLL BOOK AND BECAUSE OF THE PURE GENIUS BEHIND IT, I WILL DEFINITELY BE LOOKING FORWARD TO HER FUTURE WORK.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful combination of love, legends, and laughter. Review: Susan Carroll really knows how to make characters you find it easy to laugh with, cry for, and even at times want to strangle. I love reading and it is so fun to find a book that totally enfolds you in its story and characters. I was sad to have the book end and say good bye to Anatole, Madeline, and the pesky Prospero. You can't imagine my joy to find out there was a sequel! (The Night Drifter)
