Rating: Summary: Wonderfully gripping tale Review: This book grabbed by imagination. I really came to feel for Anatole St. Leger as he tried to deal with the demons of his past and his own cursed St. Leger powers. I could just imagine him storming through the castle as the doors mysteriously flew open ahead of him. I also felt for the sensible Madeline as she tried to deal with the not so sensible world she is thrust into. This is a beautiful "beauty and the beast" type story that I haven't been able to stop thinking about days after finishing the book. I loved it!
Rating: Summary: a good read Review: Well this story takes a bit of time to develope but when it does it develops into a good story. There is not a lot of love scenes in this book so don't be expecting a lot of passion. This story is very mental. I enjoyed reading about The cursed and scarred Anatole St. Legar, heir to a legacy of stange and unusual powers. And is bride Madeline who is ever so practical. She has come hoping to find the man she sees in a portrait, kind, gentle and caring, and what she finds is a cold, scarred, lonely man who has never known love. Together the must try and love each other and battle the demons of the legends. I look forward to reading the sequel to this book, the Night Drifter.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant writing, but sterotypical Review: Ms. Carroll has a gift -- there is no doubt about that. Her writing is rich, intruiging, and very satisfying. This book, however, is painfully sterotypical: the dark brooding lord, handsome but scarred, the headstrong heroine, and the forbidden castle are the stuff of every fairytale and romance novel. It made the book quite predictable in spite of the magic and interesting lore woven in.
Rating: Summary: Magical Review: There are so many adjectives to describe this book, almost too many because I can't get them all down. It's magical and mysterious, lovely and sweet and inspiring and heartfelt and bewitching and . . .It's amazing. The two main characters seem to be as opposite as two people could ever be. Anatole, blunt and out-doorsy and wildly uncivilized. Madeline, practical AND romantic who I think connects extrmemly well with average women like romance readers tend to be. But it's not just the main characters but the subs which are excellent as well. From the Bride Finder himself to Roman, (Anatole's nemsis), they're all powerful and touching in their own ways. Midnight Bride has even more of this with the history of the St. Legers and the present St. Legers as well. Another thing that I like about the St. Leger series is that it's written in accordance to each main characters' personalities. In Night Drifter, there isn't much about their history because Lance (hero) isn't as interested as his brother in the St. Leger family history. A lot of writers can't pull off writing like their characters think or speak and interact. If fantasy and paranormals are as close to your heart as they are to mine this novel will sweep you away with its magic and romance and I'm not really the kind of person to say those things lightly. I'm too aware of how sappy it sounds. I hope you try this out and that you like it as much as I do. It has a permanant spot on my bookshelf. In fact, I'm even considering passing it down like some kind of heirloom. :)
Rating: Summary: A keeper Review: I absolutely love this book. It has all you need in a book. A great plot. Villians, s lovely and no nonense woman, a very endearing priest or I should say bride finder, a cranky ancestoral ghost in residence and a good man underneath all of that baggage he's been carrying around with him all those years. Yhe romance was very good. In my estimation this is Ms. Carroll's finest work of all of the books I have read by her. Anxious to start another book by her. Smile.
Rating: Summary: Find the Bride Finder! Review: Susan Carroll spins a captivating story. She dangles questions masterfully in a plot that will keep one turning the pages, letting you know just enough until the chilling finale. The Bride Finder is haunting love story that has a thread of magic woven in; rather like Cinderella for grown-ups.
Rating: Summary: Exciting, romantic, and magical! Review: This is not your ordinary romance. It is definitely something more. It is a beautiful love story with some challenges and two wonderful, huge-hearted characters. Madeline, so sensible, with her gentle heart and soul and willingness to accept the theory of the Bride Finder, though she finds it a bit odd. Anatole, his haunting past and pent up pain of many years and strife to accept his life as abnormal as it is. And add a little mystery, a haunted castle, enemies of the past, maybe a little super natural, some magic, and two wonderful main characters and you have one of the most unforgettable books you can read. It is wonderful. It will stay with you way after you have finished and closed the book. The extra characters and residents of this castle, along with Anatole's male family members, add a little something great to this book. I highly recommend this story of Anatole and Madeline to anyone who is ready for a heart breaking, exciting, magical novel about love, the power to find true love and keep it, and accepting and believing in magic, sacrifice, and fate. And now, I cannot wait to find the second book in this series.
Rating: Summary: so much more than a romance Review: I loved this book. Although I am a slow reader, I read the first half in one night. Every night thereafter, I tried to pace myself so that I could stretch out the pleasure. But I caved about 2/3 the way through & stayed up until 2am to finish reading it. Wonderful! I can't praise the originality & the prose enough. I am a fan forever after this one!
Rating: Summary: A rare story, brilliant! Review: There are very few authors who can grab and hold my attention, but Susan has with this story. It is a wonderful love story with two powerful people set right in the middle of it. Anatole and Madeline are made for eack other, even though they don't think so in the begining. They have to overcome many obsticles to come to realise they love each other and finding they do they realise that love is strong enough to change the prophecy of what must be. The BRIDE FINDER is a very rare book with some wonderful and not so wonderful characters. The story will hold you right to the very last page. I was so sad when Roman, who was a very nasty member of the St.Leger family died. He finally made his peace with Anatole just before he died. They both hated each other from the day they were born, thanks to Anatole's parents rejection of him. Anatole's mother wished Roman was her son because he has not inherited the St.Leger curse, like her own son has. Buy this book, you won't be disapointed with it. I'm just about to start the sequel to this story called THE NIGHT DRIFTER. This one is about Lance, son and heir to Castle Leger, one of Anatole and Madeleine's twin son's. I can't wait to finish it. For those of you who want to know if there will be a third book in the series, there will be. It is called VALENTINES BRIDE ( Lance's twin brother) and will be released in the winter of 2001. There is a sneak preview at the end of THE NIGHT DRIFTER. I can't wait.....
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Story with an Original plot Review: The Bride Finder was a wonderfully written story.I could not put the book down. The book was about the St. Leger family. The famly is very unusual. The members of the famly must marry the person chosen by the Bride Finder. If somone in the famly marries someone not picked by the Bride Finder the marriage is doomed to fail. I liked The Bride Finder a lot more than The Night Drifter. I can't wait for the third book to come out in this series.
