Rating: Summary: Time travel, fairies &a cute dog what more could you want? Review: This is the first book I've read by Lisa Cach and it won't be the last. I really enjoyed this book. I liked the fact that the hero was more like an average man. He wasn't extremely tall or very muscular. The heroine was a modern woman who deals quite well with the fact that she has been flung back in time to a period where women were under strct constraints and I'm not just talking about the clothes. The story starts off with Wihelmina, or Elle as she likes to be called, given a note by a homeless person in modern times. She doesn't even look at the paper until she is out with her dog on a walk. The note reads "Coupon Good for: one free husband. Redeem at will". She looks up into the sky and waves the coupon states the she wants to redeem her coupon. She thinks its just a joke when all of the sudden she is surrounded by fairies and they transport her back in time to be the wife of Henry. Henry's bride to be Eleanor is who she is replacing. Henry has no idea anything is different because they apparently look the same. She decides to go along with it so that she can at least get the wedding. I mean every girl dreams of a big wedding with all the trimmings. Then she will go back to her time. Only that doesn't happen. She seems stuck in 1790 with a husband who she doesn't know but is very attracted to. Henry doesn't quite know what to make of his bride. She doesn't seem like the person he met before but he likes this person better. He is puzzled by her lack of knowledge about running a household and her ideas about birth control but can't help but fall for her. Elle fights her feelings for Henry and when she finally lets him into her heart she thinks that she must leave him and go back to her time. This tale is wonderfully written and it made for a very enjoyable read. I look forward to other books by this author.
Rating: Summary: A delightful read! Review: This story of a modern woman from the Northwest struggling to make sense of life and love in Georgian England is witty and entertaining from start to finish. The heroine's predicament (thanks to some misguided but well-intentioned fairies) results in a temporal culture clash with very amusing results. The author thoroughly explores many of the challenges a modern woman would face when placed in such a situation. One of the great strengths of the book is the heroine Elle, who must somehow try to fit her independent, modern worldview into the realities of a more tradition-bound society while staying faithful to her true self. I found her a wonderful character that I could easily relate to. While Ms. Cach plays lightly with some of the "historical romance" conventions, the romance that develops between the two main characters is both genuine and passionate.
Rating: Summary: Modern Woman meets Georgian Gentleman Review: When Elle wished for a husband who didn't expect anything of her, she never expected her wish to come true. Immediately after her wish the modern woman is transported back to Georgian England. When Henry decided to barter his title for a rich wife, he expected a woman who could run his household and give him heirs. He never expected his countess to be quiet like Elle. Elle knew nothing of eighteenth century living, how to run a house, food, etc. Most of all Elle was afraid to have children. Dumbfounded by his bride, Henry slowly but surely wins her over. But how did she get here and why? Lisa Cach has written a nice time travel which gives the reader some interesting insights to eighteenth century living. I look forward to reading more from this author
Rating: Summary: Wish upon a star, indeed Review: Wilhelmina March (Elle) wants some excitement in her life and BOY! does she get it. A magic coupon leads to a wish for a husband, except that this husband, Henry Trevelyan, is way back in 1790. But no matter, because Elle is magically switched with Henry's odious fiancee, Eleanor, and the marriage takes place. There is that rarity of rarities, real communication between hero and heroine, it deals with ALL sorts of questions a modern woman would have if she woke up in another time, and all in all, this is a very enjoyable book.
