Summary: Absolutely Appalling
Review: I didn't get any further in this book than the scene where the dyslexic heroine is laughed at by her entire family because of her "stupid" mistakes and then is humiliated by the "hero" in an effort to tame her in front of said "loving family" - and again they do nothing. This was absolutely appalling and I kept waiting for the scene where she either told off her entire family or attempted suicide because the people who are supposed to love and appreciate her treat her like dirt. I will never try to read anything by this author again.

Summary: WILD CHILD
Review: I enjoyed this book and don't understand others' problems. (Especially since lately I have read books by other authors who have a so-called hero sleeping in master bedroom with his mistress while the wife sleeps in another chamber)

Victoria Douglas, the heroine and last of the Douglas sisters, is the family wild child. Vicdtoria is funny and kindhearted as well as strongwilled and outspoken. She has a secret, the cause of her problems, that she guards. Victria is severely dyslexic. Only her aunt and sisters know about this. She feels stupid because she is unteachable. In those days people did not know about learning disabilities.

Alexander Emerson is a semi-alpha male. He is not as alpha as Prince Rudolf )To Charm A Prince) was but he is no Alan Alda sensitive guy type.

Alexander believes what he sees in stad of what he feels. He undergoes a tremendous change during the book. Grasso redeems him wonderfully in the end.

Victoria for her part also changes. She goes from being a willful girl to a mature woman. She is quite brave for she must face her biggest fear, having the world know her problem, in order to save her marriage.

The story brought me smiles, laughter amd tears. I especially loved the courtroom scene with Victoria on the witness stand.

Grasso continues to bring us thoroughly original characters, controversial to some readers.

If you don't like alpha males, don't buy the book. However, if you don't take yourself too seriously, as another reviewer implied, then read it.

I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK WITHOUT RESERVATION!

Summary: Waste of money
Review: I have been a long time fan of this author. Her past offering over the last few years left me wondering if the author that penned "Violets in the Snow" and "Emerald Enchantment" two of my favorite books had indeed written the stories? I'm so glad that Ms. Grasso has returned with not only a new story but one that made me laugh out loud and weep softly!

Victoria has been secretly betrothed for a year. She meets her intended only a few short weeks before the "I do's". Not realizing that Aleander Emerson will soon be her husband she takes the advice of her sisters to practice flirting with him. Victoria meets Alexander and their attraction is immediate! For both. Now if they could only put their individual problems on the back burner to realzie what is right in front of their faces.

Alexander agrees to the engagement to the last daughter of the man his father ruined (did you follow that?) it's the least he could do. What he doesn't expect is the powerful way he feels after sharing just one kiss. He decides that marriage to Victoria many not be easy, but it sure won't be a hardship. Now if he can only stop the plots that have been set in place to destroy their fragile bond before it's to late.

This was a wonderful read with a great cast of characters. Victoria is not a milk and water miss and her issue with dyslexia makes a wonderful secondary storyline. Alexander is a great hero and just the right match for Victoria. I highly recommend this latest offering by Ms. Grasso. If you've never read her before you're in for a treat. If you have read her past few titles but have found them wanting you will be very happy to see that she is back writing as she did in the past!

Summary: GOOD SUMMER READING
Review: I loved thbis book. The heroine, Victoria, was spunky, funy, loving, and a bit vulnerable. The hero, Alexander, was hunky, a bit arrogant, and in the end sensitive to his own flaws and mistakes. The villains were hateful jealous. A good book to read at the beach, especially for the witty dialogue, especially the courtroom scene. I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.

Summary: UGH!!!
Review: I not sorry to be saying this about this book. I have had it in my TBR pile for awhile and thought I should read it since most of the reviews have been good. UGH! I am not even finished with it and I don't think I could.
Victoria is treated like a child. The writer does make her out to be stupid. I do not know alot about dyslexia but I know people with it are way smarter than Victorias character. And I did not care for the hero Alexander at all either. I DO like my alpha males but ONLY if they are stood up to by the heroine. I know she tried but it was rather pitiful how she caved in and got punished for whatever she did, and how her family AND Alex plotted against her.. It was alittle too much. I didn't like the characters in her family and I felt very sorry for Victoria that she had a family like this. I don't want to prolong the pain so I won't be finnishing it. It might get better(reviews show it might not) but I am not going to take that chance but move on to another book, hoping it will be way better than this one.

Summary: A Great Job
Review: I really enjoyed this book. It's a bit of fluff but enteretaining and funny. I usually don't write reviews, but this time I felt the need because of the inaccuracies of a previous reviewer.

I have been a teacher in a public high school for 30 years and one thing that rings true about this story is the heroine's dyslexia. I have taught many dyslexics in those 30 years and, though exaggerated in a few places, the author had done a dynamite job with the learning disability.

I don't think everyone has to like or love the story, but I do think disliking it is a matter of taste, not the author's research. I cringe inside when I see reviews that are unusually hateful and wonder the reason why that person is so angry, jealous, or whatever. Dislike the story but do not attack this research. I know for a fact that the author did a BANG up job with the dyslexia. I know this because of my experience as a teacher. Perhaps, if everyone had clasroom experience, he or she would not take themselves so seriously , which would make for more valid reviews.

As a 30 year classroom teacher, I recommend the book.

Summary: This is the first Patricia Grasso novel I read
Review: I'm not going to recap the whole storyline of this novel since it has already been done by other reviewers. I can understand why some people were annoyed in the beginning by the male behavior in the book. I don't think her brother inlaws behavior was really all that bad I mean family members tend to tease each other. I hate to say it but her betrothed's behavior at the beginning of the book was probably a more accurate account of how men viewed and treated their wives during the regency period. I think the author could have explained more about what happened between his father and Victoria's father to make it a more stand alone book. Obviously one must read the other two in the series to find out what went down. I have to say though once I got to the middle of the book when his illegitimate children begin to show up I couldn't put the book down. I ended up staying up most of the night to finish it. I can't wait to go back and read other Grasso novels.

Summary: Author should Learn about Dyslexia before writing about it
Review: This book irritated me, I read the whole thing because it was not actually nausea inducing and I hoped it would get better.

Irritation 1: The heroine was not dyslexic so much as she was stupid. The author should really find out more about the condition before she writes about it. By writing so badly, she made a stupid heroine, not a dyslexic one. She also did not tap into the strengths that often accompany dyslexia. Here are the errors I saw:
A) The L on the bottom of the shoe. I thought this was a surrepticious way to tell right from left. It would never help a dyslexic get the shoe on the correct foot unless she wrote it on the bottom of her foot also. Dyslexics are unlikely to be afflicted with wrong shoe anyway. Good pattern recognition is often associated with dyslexia. As a mild dyslexic myself, I put my shoes on the floor so they did not make a V between them and knew they would go on the corresponding foot.
B) Lost walking home. Getting directions wrong is epidemic, so is relaying directions inccorrectly, but not using a path she has used before. Dyslexics remember how to get places, they just use landmarks instead of directions. She would turn the correct way because she would think "Turn toward the red brick building." in place of "turn left." The behaviour she exhibits is actually more like a dog I had who was brain damaged as a puppy due to distemper. I couldn't help thinking of that dog every time she turned the wrong way and it was not a flattering comparison.
I could go on, but it would be flogging the point. If it were not for the dyslexia errors, I would still probably consider the heroine stupid. Why is her vocabulary so limited? People are obviously using the words around her. She should have picked them up verbally even if she never read them. Understanding Italian and enjoying the opera are not hindered in the least by dyslexia. Introducing them does nothing but re-enforce the idea the heroine is stupid. If I wanted to create sympathy, I would not have focused on non-dyslexic related weaknesses like this. What are her strengths other than being hot and getting pregnant quickly?? She is not even a very good passive aggressive, which I assume was the author's intent when describing her character.

Now that I have shredded her, it is his turn. Our romantic hero also has nothing to reccommend him other than sex and expensive presents. He is positively nasty to her quite often, of course her family is not much better. I have a mentally retarded step-sister and I would be appalled if we raked her over like this "family" did for her stupid mistakes.

The transferring of the sins of another woman onto the new wife is a standard romance plot device. This ranks with the worst examples of them. I always want to let the heroine get her pound of flesh back when the betrayal of trust is this egregious. This is not the only book I have read where I think the heroine gives in too easy, but combined with the other faults it made it abysmal.

Summary: ENJOYABLE!
Review: To Catch A Countess is an enjoyable book. Victoria is wonderful, and the author has her "problem" down pat. She is dyslexic and the author got it right. The hero is a handsome, arrogant, and then sensitive man who learns a hard lesson. The villains, hero's half-sister and her sister-in-law, were deliciously evil. A pretty good book to lose yourself in and escape stresses. I RECOMMEND BUYING IT
