Rating: Summary: How could you give it less than 4 stars!!? Review: That was the question that came to my mine when I saw the average rating of this book. For me, I found this book to be neither BORING nor SLOW as it was stated in those nagative reviews. In fact, this is a masterpiece of an incredibly touching love story feathering the most memorable scenes I've ever encountered in one book. This is a book that'll always remind me of the reasons why I shouldn't giving up reading romance. An undisputed keeper.I did realise then that this isn't a book for everybody. Some might find this book to be lack of excitements because the story mainly focus on of the main charactors and their relationships with just a few actions or suspenses. This book also doesn't suit those who're looking for the usual elements in medieval romance like a revenge angle, an evil villain, a damsel in distress or a big misunderstanding. However, if you're looking for a unique love srory or if you read a book just for the contentment of seeing the power of love and being loved, don't miss this one.
Rating: Summary: Slow and boring book Review: The book was slow and boring. There was too much dialogue about nothing important and too little action. The plot was unbelievable and the hero and heroine were unbelievable characters. At the end, the book pretty much imploded with no thrilling conclusion. I've never read anything by this author, but the book jacket sounded interesting enough so that I bought the book - Big mistake.
Rating: Summary: Totally amazing!!! Review: The story between Sebastian and Juliana was poingnant and touching... and very sensual and erotic! It seemed like their love was star-crossed. I felt Juliana's ache and Sebastian's despair. But their love was stronger than just physical gratification... there were some downright erotic scenes that had me totally absorbed! It seems like with the help of the inexplicable and supernatural forces... these two people were given a second chance. And I was cheering for them all the way through. I love this book, can't wait to read others by Karen!!
Rating: Summary: A Melodramatic Medieval Review: This book is full of flowery prose and alot of decriptions that really add nothing to the adventure of the story.... And really I'd have to say what adventure.... because other than alot of "boinking" scenes, and thinking about "boinking", nothing much happens. There is one action scene, a couple of confrontation scenes, and lots of talk. The writer at one point, decribes Juliana's 10 fingers, and at another point Sebastian's 10 toes. "the relics of faith" she whispered and 2 pages later "the Holy Grail" she whispered, while with Sebastian in a room where no one else is around. There's a miracle and, a boring solution, to the so called problems that Sebastian faces and one fight scene. Only the brother is of any interest character wise, in this book. There are 4 "boinking" scenes..... by the creek and TREES, the second having to do with gold paint, the third with a quill comparison, and the fourth with the snowy mounds and delicate rose comparisons. That's alot of scenes for one book. And they are all written in the same flowery, wordy prose that is in the rest of the book. And then there's a "touching" scene which would seem out of character for the novice Juliana. Actually the only people I see that might enjoy this book are ones that want to read about "boinking". Or like to read about thinking about "boinking" since there is alot of that too.
Rating: Summary: Imaginative storytelling Review: This book is really something. Beautifully crafted, it has an intriguing plot and a compelling cast of characters, all deeply rooted in the beliefs, values, and practices of its medival setting. It is one of those rare books in the romance genre that are both historical and romantic. The love that grows between Juliana and Sebastian amidst the worst of circumstances has a heartbreaking tenderness that makes their eventual "happy ending" all that much sweeter.
Rating: Summary: A real yawner Review: This book is slow-moving, indeed. I can appreciate history and classic thinkers. I don't want those things to overshadow the romance. Sebastian and Juliana spend most of the book thinking about each other or watching each other. BORING. As far as the earlier reviewer's concern with the "boinking" [sic] scenes, whatever. They were few and only in the last 75 pages of the book. I thought the secret and the miracle and the resolution of seemingly insurmountable problems just a bit pat. Pass on this one.
Rating: Summary: A "talkie" medieval Review: This book was a mistake for me. Due to positive reviews on this book, I bought it and had two of my friends buy it. They are probably going to think twice about my advice from now on. Not a one of us liked it. Maybe it's because I'm into something happening when I read a book. The unconsumated marriage, the problem, the miracle all seemed contrived to me. The author wanted to show her knowledge of history, and tacked it on to a romance. To be honest, the whole book seems to be about why Juliana and Sebastian can't do it, and then why they can with a little bit of action thrown in. And lots and lots of talk. The thing that really caused me to give up on this book, was when Juliana copied Sebastian's words in announcing the problem. I kept waiting for the halo to appear around her head. That's the kind of book this is.
Rating: Summary: Not a typical Karen Ranney book Review: This book was very slow and very boring. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was out of respect for Ms. Ranney's previous books. The lead characters came out of nowhere (especially the heroine). Neither hero or heroine had any personality. It really was a depressing book, and not expected of Ms. Ranney.
Rating: Summary: SPIRITUALLY SENSUAL Review: With 1251 England and the Templar Knights serving as backdrop, two victims of circumstance come together in an awakening of spirit. Sebastian and Juliana live with their individual self-imposed secrets, fears, and solitudes until they help each other to self-discovery. Karen Ranney delicately blends the main characters' (uncontrived) dialogue and thoughts with gentle narrative that mirrors their relationship moving from the unknown to the known. The sensuality of the tale is matched only by the spirituality of the characters' experiences. You hear, you feel their desire even in their thoughts..."touch me"...and you are touched.
